Cow is not included in bride list items, but he will still buy it for the bride family and get the hall for the event. He will also buy matching clothes for bride parent. These are traditions in Yoruba land. If the bride family are rich, they can forgone it on their side but if they are not, he will pay for all the expenses of the wedding on bride family.
It is not Yoruba culture for the husband to buy the cow for the bride family and take care of the expenses.
What are you saying brother?!
The bride family gba alejo, it’s their duty to take care of their visitors while the visitors support.

It is very cheap except for that cow.
It is a Yoruba family,we Yorubas don't believe in selling our daughters in the name of bride price.
This one is worst that selling, this is trade by barter. All these kind of list makes you loose interest in your partner. 41 tubers of yam, one cow and 1 goat is almost 4 million for 3 items for a traditional wedding, you’ll still spend for court or church wedding and ceremonies, rent an event centre, hire caterers, pay for food, drinks, music and dj and buy suite for yourself and your groom’s men, you will also buy bridal gowns for your bride and bride’s maids before renting a flat where you’ll begin your new marriage, all expenses on one person. You’ll need 46 to 50 million naira to have a successful wedding in Nigeria in this hard times, more reasons why a lot of women will not get married if they keep supporting this useless marriage list.

Honestly the cheapest marriage in the whole of Nigeria ought to be that of urhobo.

The list is still quite expensive for the Yoruba. Yes, a goat may be in the list but certainly not a Cow.

The problem is that bride price list is extremely subjective. They bill you according to how well they think you can pay
There's a Cow there Sir. Not just any cow...but a WHOLE COW.
Re: A Would Be Bride Shows Off Her Family's Bride List by spiceadole(f): 7:03am On Jun 25
So men are still getting married?
I don't want to believe that anyway.

That was considerate. This Iwo list is nonsense

One whole maluu and iya goat don near or pass 1.5m

I think the South South still has the cheapest bride list - God bless my babe family 😁
800k - 850k can still sort out a decent Cow and Goat
Re: A Would Be Bride Shows Off Her Family's Bride List by McLizbae: 7:12am On Jun 25
Baba na akwaibom... Monitized bride price as at 2020 is more than 3m.
Stephen0mozzy:
I don't know what part of South South you married from.

I'm Edo, Benin Tribe. The average bride price list for our women is less than 1million. Na you con know wedai you wan do am for parlor or invite the whole country for expensive after-party.

My Sister married recently, the bride price list wasn't up to 800k. I have peeked into the marriage list of one Esan bride, the list is under 800k.

But then again, I guess it's based on family. My own family nor dey sell pikin.
Re: A Would Be Bride Shows Off Her Family's Bride List by ZariaGadgets(m): 7:14am On Jun 25

It is tradition but yet, nothing is cast in stone. Some of those things can still be relaxed and adjusted if the bride and groom are in unison.

Re: A Would Be Bride Shows Off Her Family's Bride List by Neoteny(m): 7:17am On Jun 25
Hungry families.

Half the list is food.

In the North, the bride's family provides the food items to last the couple months, as well as essential and quality-of-life items like the beds, sofas, curtains, kitchenware, dining table and such.

All the groom does is pay the dowry, and find a place to stay. The wife's family furnishes it and provides the chow.

Why add a full Malu? Yoruba bridal lists are getting more expensive like that in the South East.
I think the elders in that family have all died because, that list doesn't reflect the typical Yoruba bride list.

They have started importing strange things into it.
Re: A Would Be Bride Shows Off Her Family's Bride List by Great9japikin: 7:47am On Jun 25
Cheap key, cheap ni.

How much is one cow now, or are they expecting a cheap one?

That's not "Iwo list" but that particular family's list which doesn't represent the typical Yoruba's list. A lot of strange items on that list.

Some yorubas still have this old mentality that to marry an igbo girl cost a whole lot. If this list is right, then no difference undecided
No mind the hypocrites. That list alone is close to or over 2m if well calculated.

The truth is that for some Yorubas with no knowledge or understanding, everything Igbo takes away their sleep.

Meanwhile marriage remains what it is, irrespective of tribe, religion or culture. The northerners spend a lot more for marriages. Check Benue and Kogi states. Check the northwest, where just the dowry can be as much as 2m or more.

It is only the poor who lament and yet want the best. Cut your cost according to your cloth.

Which one is “the typical Yoruba’s list”? You do marry before, or how many marriages have you attended? Or you think that marriage lists are the same across Yoruba land. Na so una go dey defend wetin una no sabi.

Mr stop talking thrash! In Yoruba land the wifes side spend more on all these things, they are basically the ones that takes care of the reception of course the husband can assist. I bet you are probably not a Yoruba man or your are from a greedy family that doesn't follow the true Yoruba tradition.
Don't mind him.
In the Yoruba tradition, the bride's family are hosting their visitors (the groom and his people). Do you collect money from your visitors before giving them nice threat?
It's also seen as the celebration, honor to the bride, and appreciation to the Lord for a successful girl child upbringing. Whatever "burden" you place on the groom, you're simply saving it for the bride when the wedding is over and the marriage starts cheesy

However, in the same tradition, a visitor is expected to reciprocate the threat. Under informal agreements (not like the ones on that list), the groom and his dad would support to lighten the heavy expenses on the bride's dad. It's a mutual agreement thing, to make the day glamorous for the uniting family.

Rich families don't have these issues because, the bride's family would even find it insulting that you want to give them things they need to entertain you.

For the less priviledged families, it's a thing of mutual understanding and consideration to assume shared responsibilities. Infact, there are families where the groom's family will pick all bills (based on the situation of the bride's family) in order to have an event befitting their status.
