All the needed ingredients for parliamentary system of government are almost complete......

Everything is working towards regional government and full resource control. I wish President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the grace and wisdom to achieve his aims of restructuring the country.

Lastly, to the Ibos, if your enemy seems to be working in your favour, the best thing is to support him with all your energy; maybe God is using him in disguise, except you don't know what you are doing.

Thank you President Tinubu.
They dont know what they are doing!
Re: Senate Passes State Police Bill, empowers Govs to appoint Police Commissioners by holocron:
Another good one from the Jagaban. This demonstrates that Tinubu has all the power to transform Nigeria for good, but he is not doing it because of his sectional and parochial tendencies including his avarice and cynicism (He once proclaimed that he does not believe in one Nigeria). Had it being he is truly patriotic and selfless Nigeria would have being on its way to being like Singapore. No president since Nigeria began (not even the colonial governor-generals) has amassed the quantity of Machiavellian power and influence that has been garnered by the Jagaban. For once in Nigeria, a president is in effective control of Parliament, Judiciary and practically all the Governors of the states, including the Armed forces, and INEC. He has the power to win/rig any election, change the Constitution as he deems fit - extend his tenure, partition the country, anything. And this power can be used for great good or great evil.

Barau Jibrin
Deputy Senate President
This is being done in a rush and it will boomerang. I don't trust any Nigerian politicians with state powers

There should be proper institutional balance that's will hold anyone accountable including governors and presidents

What then becomes of Hisbah the Sharia police operating in Muslim states, since the new law expressly forbids state police from applying religious bias in the work?
Go and ask them

Where did you see this part in the snippets of the bill shared?
Kidnapping is usually a cross border crime especially that which is carried out by terrorists. The terrorists are Fulani who came with weapons to Oyo to kidnap school children and have then moved them into the forest bordering Kwara.
States already have penal and criminal codes. You simply don't understand anything. Most activities of the bandits fall under terrorism after all, both ISWAP and Boko Haram have been designated as terrorists by Nigerian laws. So stop advertising ignorance abeg!
If they kidnapped your loved one and your state government want to rescue write a petition barring them from doing so.
I don't know why hatred for the president will want to make anyone cut his nose in order to spite his face.

Passing is not the issue but the implementation

The state governors have already been asking for more funds on a bill that's yet to be passed

They gave out their intentions early
This should be integrated into the details of the state police law that's why it must be stated out early enough

My problem is with the State Governments, they might turn them to personal services
There is no perfection in it, but it is better than concentrating everything on the federal government.

The Edo State Governor is doing excellent work on security. He has declared a crackdown on cultism and kidnapping, with plans to establish mobile courts that will try offenders within two to three weeks. Anyone convicted will face the death penalty by public execution at Ring Road in Benin City.
Okay, hope you have received your monthly stipend cheesy

The country struggle because y'all point fingers at the federal forgetting states have the same.

States have judiciary, house of assembly that can checkmate their governors so start calling them to act and be responsible.
How do you blame the State when you don't Constitutionally empower them to be in charge of the security paraphernalia of their state?

Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces,in control of both the Police,Army and allied Forces and yet it's the state government that's not stepping up?

If you want the States held liable then the least you can do is to empower them to do their job.
Re: Senate Passes State Police Bill, empowers Govs to appoint Police Commissioners by DarkJeddi(m):
Juliette5803:
what is the difference between the two
The difference is that the States knows their peculiar situations and local terrain and are more equipped to deal with such challenges.

And you don't throw away the baby with the bath water.

Yes,State Police will come with it's own challenges but it's left for the Federal Government to anticipate such and put in checks and balances to curtail it.

The benefits are enough to outweigh the cons.

Wet know the reason BATISTS are happy about the bill is they think it gives them room to push security issues to the govs while shielding their fraud
Unfortunately the same bill says terrorism falls under federal jurisdiction so you should know that the state police is not being created to fight banditry and terrorism. It's being created to reduce the workload on the Federal police especially on routine and basic policing matters
Just imagine your reasoning! I've always known there will always be some people that will have diarrhea over every good news. I guess you're feeling good with the state of insecurity in the country.

You're the real definition of your Monica😂😂

Anyhow country, see how we do things without proper structure. What becomes of the NP? You cannot have two parallel police formations in a country conflicting with each other.
Here's my plan, completely desolve the NP; then create an agency akin to the FBI, you can name it the Federal Security Bureau or something similar; absolve 10-15% of the most qualified police offers into this agency. The portfolio of this agency will be a mirror of that of the FBI, invite top FBI and similar international agency officials for intensive training programs for this new agency. This new agency can absolve other agencies like the ICPC, EFCC, NAPTIP among others.
The rest of the 85-90% of the police should be released back to their INDIVIDUAL STATES OF ORIGIN to make up what will be the new local police force. Every federal police infrastructure in those states is to be absorbed by the state as voluntarily released by the federal government. The erstwhile police budget and salary allocations should be released back into the state allocations accordingly, to help fund the new local police. Every state should make and domesticate their own police laws and have their own unique salary structure and politice budget. Having done that, it must be stated that no state should pay a police officer below what was statutorily received at the federal level, it can be more but not less since there's a budget to back the local police.

The next thing the federal government should hands off is the federal road safety commission, they have no business in that field, they should be handed over to the states or made a department under state police

By the way, I hope we will start seeing beautiful police uniforms across the various states or are they going to be wearing the same uniforms across board?

Lol. I am not expecting to see any of those negative and bitter folks on this thread.

Like their messiah Obi, bad news and negativity is all they live to focus on without having the class and maturity to minimally praise good developments from the PBAT Government when such is delivered. No
Has banditry stopped? Is it by State police? It's just an avenue to loot more money.

What the military can't do is what state police will do? grin delusion.

The issue of terrorism is political in this country, until Tinubu goes after the sponsor, any security outfit is just a smokescreen.

Where is Amotekun when kids where kidnapped in Oyo for more than one month?
