A three-storey building has collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos, leaving several people trapped under the rubble as emergency responders continue a frantic rescue operation. The building reportedly came down around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in the Satellite Town area. Videos from the scene showed a terrifying moment as a huge cloud of dust covered the area, with residents and traders running for safety while the collapsed structure turned into a pile of debris close to nearby shops and busy roads. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received a distress call at about 11:37 a.m. and arrived at the scene around 11:49 a.m. to begin rescue operations. So far, at least 10 people have reportedly been rescued alive from the collapsed building and taken for medical attention. The ongoing operation involves several emergency agencies, including the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Red Cross. Authorities are still searching through the debris, while the exact number of people trapped and the total casualty figure remain unknown. The incident has caused panic among residents, with many expressing shock over the collapse of a building located in such a busy commercial area. The tragedy has also renewed concerns over recurring building collapses in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, with experts often pointing to issues such as poor construction practices, use of substandard materials, weak enforcement, and rapid urban development. As rescue teams continue their efforts, residents are calling for prayers, answers, and accountability over the cause of the collapse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCv7Sh5c8RA?si=8sukK7bUxQC3JrsF

There's should be an agency that should go around to determine the durability of already existing buildings but I don't expect such from any government in this country as the safety of human lives and property is never a priority |
| Re: Three-Storey Building Collapses In Alakija, Lagos, Many Trapped (Video) by TheStoriesOfMan: 3:43pm On Jun 25 |
For every building crumbling in Lagos, hold LASBCA responsible. They will do investigation and see that a building is defective. They will threaten to close the site, then ask you to pay millions before the site is opened. Why will you collect bribe to allow a defective building to stand? Na wa oooo |

BlocksNG:you're so insensitive. Your type should not be on such a platform as this. Those are people's families under the rubble and the only thing could spew is Tinubu building Lagos. Does the post look like comedy or politics to you? |

What many are not aware of is that these buildings are essentially ceramic materials which give you no warning signs before collapsing. That is the essence of steel reinforcement which demands professional-grade intervention to prove that the building is safe. What's happening in this country is systemic failure, where government either don't know its responsibilities in terms of protection of lives or is too corrupt to care. |

Nwaokunkpara:That is the work of LASBCA na. It is a money-making agency profiting off from bribes collected from compromised contractors and clients. |

Differential settlement is real , not substandard building materials all the time causes building collapse. |

Those old structures should be either sold off to those who can pull them down and rebuild or to developers as the case may be Lagos is overrated |
