The State Policing Currently In Nigeria Is An Illusion by helinues(op): 10:11pm On Jun 25
Who will give such power to the governors that some of them are seeking a reelection or going to Senate. Expensive mistake that must be avoided by all means

With the current Nigeria structure, state policing would rather complicate the insecurity.

The passage of the bill is just to shut some noise down not that it would be effective or implemented anytime soon

On the contrary, State Police is the solution we need. In fact, we should have had State Police all these while if not for power tussle and quest for "winner takes all" at the centre.

I'd rather support State policing to have a sense of safety than allow terrorists to continue killing unchallenged. Do you even know the distance between Borno and Oyo State?.
Aren't you worried that the Boko haram terrorists moved undetected all the way from Borno into Oyo, Ogun, Lagos?. Shouldn't that tell you that the security architecture of the country needs new strategy?
What exactly is your problem with State Governors having control of the Police in their State?.
In saner climes, the Governors are even more active and hold authority in their States. Why exactly are you jittery?

I hope yourself & brother will be first on the list for recruitment into the new state police force?

If the bill passes no one will be shut down! And it might be implemented ineffectively too.

Even if the bill is going to be implemented fully, it will be towards the 2031 election

The states don't even have the money to fund the state policing. It's going to be a stalemate

budaatum:
My Osun State too?

Our capacity is small at the moment. We can't even pay teachers, and have to rely on Youth Corpers, so I doubt we'd be spending money on "superior ammunition and guns included amord tanks, gun helicopters", and I doubt our criminals will stay in our state and not go bother other states.

I hope they think this through.

How many opposition have they used Amotekun to oppressed in the South West. As it is currently, we already have something along the State Police, virtually all the State in the Federation has one specialized security arrangement, you could even call them Vigilante. So stop the worries. We can't keep doing the same thing sach time.
Before, it used to be Local Government Police.
With what Governors are collecting, and the potentials in IGR, State government must re-priotize and focus on what is important

Generating power that the state governors have been granted , how many states have generate any reasonable watts of electricity? That's even something that one can partner with the investors.

Who will fund the state policing? Investors

It's under Asiwaju that the power sector is totally decentralised.

States and the Private sectors can now generate

You can't expect to get an immediate impact, it will take some time before we start filling the impact

The State Governments will get a lot of support from the FG in creating Their Police Force

Tinubu has been pushing for the creation of State Police since February 2024

Go and make your reasearch very well

Tinubu first told the 36 state Governors about it in February 2024

State Police was never the idea of the State Governors or the Lawmakers. They are only Aligning with Asiwaju

It's because the insecurity has gotten worse that they are now rushing it now

You should go and do your research well
