The World’s Top Billionaire Cities In 2026 - China Leads! by franchasofficia(op): 5:29am On Jun 26
The world’s billionaire population is increasingly concentrated in a small group of global wealth hubs.

Using data from the Hurun Global Rich List 2026, this graphic ranks the cities with the most billionaires worldwide as of January 15, 2026.

While New York remains the world’s billionaire capital, Chinese cities dominate much of the leaderboard. More broadly, Asia accounts for the majority of billionaires across the cities shown, underscoring the region’s expanding influence on global wealth creation.

New York Remains the Global Billionaire Capital

New York remains the world’s billionaire capital with 146 billionaires, but the gap is narrowing. Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing now rank second, third, and fourth globally, giving China three cities within striking distance of New York’s total.

The Big Apple’s dominance is supported by Wall Street, a deep pool of financial services firms, and a thriving ecosystem of private equity, real estate, and technology companies.

Chinese Cities Dominate the Rankings
Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing rank second, third, and fourth globally, with 132, 120, and 107 billionaires, respectively.

China’s presence extends well beyond its largest cities.

Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and Ningbo also appear among the world’s leading billionaire hubs.

Altogether, eight Chinese cities appear in the ranking, accounting for 34% of all billionaires represented.

Asia Emerges as the Center of Billionaire Growth

Asia accounts for 58% of billionaires across the cities shown, making it the dominant region in the ranking.

In addition to China’s strong showing, cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Singapore, Taipei, Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta, and Tokyo all rank among the world’s top billionaire centers.

India’s presence is particularly notable, with Mumbai and New Delhi both placing in the global top 11.

Traditional Wealth Centers Still Matter

Despite Asia’s rise, several long-established wealth centers remain highly influential.

London ranks fifth globally with 102 billionaires, while Moscow, Paris, Milan, Stockholm, and Istanbul all feature prominently.

In North America, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto, and Palm Beach continue to attract significant concentrations of wealth.

Meanwhile, Dubai’s inclusion reflects the Middle East’s growing role as a destination for entrepreneurs, investors, and high-net-worth individuals.

Now my personal question is; where is Africa? Where is Nigeria? What is our government doing wrongly with their policies because government policies matters a lot in how citizens of a nation succeeds in wealth creation and sustenance. Imagine every successive Nigerian government tends to become worst than the previous one in reducing Nigerian people's wealth and purchasing power? How can we change this sad situation and reposition Nigeria to compete among other prosperous nations? Lagos state alone ought to have at least 20 dollar billionaires in 2026. Nigerian government need to really sit up angry

Re: The World’s Top Billionaire Cities In 2026 - China Leads! by Eriokanmi:
Political corruption has ruined Nigeria, from number 1 economy in africa to number 5 today. After stealing the tax payers money, they go buy 3 jet, while their sons would be buying properties all over London

Whereas, there are youths who need empowerment, those SMEs who can truly change the economic fortune of Nigeria forever. Instead of helping them grow, they look the other way. They can empty 2 bullion vans filled with cash in one day cos of election. And if you tell people to stop following such dangerous people, most of whom are already funeral candidates, they'd say no way! Meanwhile, they're growing old too, without anything to point to as achievement. That's the height of stupidity.
China isn't occupying that position today by luck. Nigeria used to be better off economically than China but today, the reverse is the case. Their government helped them get thus far. They'd send them overseas on scholarship to study and return home to develop their country. They give loans to their citizens to go out and explore opportunities. Japan does this too cos I have a Japanese friend who told me so. This guy spent over 1million dollars in 2 years without any achievement in Nigeria. He lives in ikoyi, has an office there and a cook. His first deal earned him 2.5m usd. He goes to Egypt and other african nations too for prospecting and would come back. His base is Nigeria.

If we could be leading China at a time then, we had the potential of leading the world. Sadly, all those following these corrupt politicians don't know they're not doing themselves any good. They'd realise this by the time they're in their 50s.

I hope Nigerians who can't see beyond government's ownership of enterprises can learn something from this information.

There is a strong correlation between the economic growth of any nation and the number of billionaires it has. As the Chinese economy grows, the number of billionaires in China grows. It is the case in any economically buoyant country.

The economy of most working countries in the world are run by entrepreneurs who are able to deploy capital into various sectors of their economies. These entrepreneurs are usually big dreamers and ambitious.

Nigeria has a few like Dangote, Otedola, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Adenuga, and even Elumelu. Nigerians don't appreciate these people due to jealousy, and the uninformed belief that large scale businesses should be owned by the government. Unknown to many people, Nigeria need many of these big dreamers for us to thrive economically as a nation. We need them in large scale commercial farming, power generation, information technology, hi-tech engineering, real estate, healthcare, and so on.

One of the reasons we don't have constant power in Nigeria is because we don't have enough private sector participation in generation. We have been conditioned to think that it is only the duty of the government. I used to believe it too, until I conducted a research on power generation in most developed countries, and I realized that most are driven by the private sector. In fact, with the exception of the US, the top capitalized companies in many advanced stock exchanges in the world are utility companies.

The US is nothing without the private sector. The best universities (Ivy League + MIT , Stanford e.t.c) in the US are private. The best hospitals like Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, e.t.c are private. The largest employer of labor in the US are private companies. The electricity used in most homes are provided by the private sector.

We need to embrace the private sector more in Nigeria for the country to work better.

Me too. But most of the billionaires in California live in San Francisco. The Indian position should improve by the time Indian-american citizens, most of whom reside in San Francisco are added. I boarded a spirit airline one day from Fort Lauderdale Airport in Florida to Los Angeles. I booked an economy seat. But found myself on the business class seat. There was something spirit airline does which I got to know for the 1st time on board. They used to do something like draw before take off Anyone who wins among the passengers will occupy one of the empty business class seats. They also had some gifts for winners.

Luckily, my name was mentioned and I was ushered into the business class seat, but they didn't give me any refreshments lol. You must buy whatever you want with your card. So, I was seated beside this calm-looking Indian who asked for my nationality. The moment i said Nigeria he looked at me again. He said he was in Nigeria in the late 80s and established a pharmaceutical business but left a few years later for India and moved with his family to the US. He's one of the directors at Astrazeneca. He said he lives in San Francisco and had 5 flourishing pharmaceutical companies. He bought me snacks on board cos my card couldn't be charged for what I wanted to order from one of the crews parading them. He said most successful Indians live in that city and San Diego and they were billionaires. He's also in hospitality business.
