You May Not Like Him, But He Confronted The Problems. by Melezenawii(op): 3:45pm On Jun 26
Our revenue was weak—he introduced tax reforms.

Students were dropping out—he introduced a student loan scheme.

Grassroots development was being neglected—he fought for local government autonomy.

Insecurity was ravaging communities—he introduced state policing.

Fuel subsidy was crippling the economy—he removed it.

Multiple exchange rates were distorting the market—he unified the FX system.

States were struggling financially—he increased allocations to them.

You may not like him, but he confronted the problems.

If your preferred candidate were President, what specific reforms would they have implemented differently or better?

I must admit that he definitely did.

Now vote for my Obi please, or anyone else for that matter. I've had enough of APC!

What can Obi achieve? Nothing. A Nigerian President who will do well must be a brave and resolute character who can confront the many demons who have turned our nation into their private estate.

Is it Obi who flees even the tiniest of battles who can face the biggest demonic Goliaths determined to keep Nigeria underdeveloped?

The dingbat did not confront any problems. He simply manipulated the system to suit his own selfish purposes.

The tax reforms has some merits. Agreed. But what impact does it have on the common man? What is the essence of a tax reform that has pushed more Nigerians into poverty than it has brought out? Why move the minimum taxable limit to 15% from 7% if you really wanted to help the masses with taxes?

How won't students need loans to go to school when the fees have quadrupled due to the government's economic failure? TIs get less than 15% of thier overheads released to them. They can barely function. Promotion arrears of about 3 years is owed. 25/35% increase owed. Wage award owed. Minimum wage arrears owed. It is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. And are the loans 'free'? How can giving someone a loan to survive be an achievement?

Grassroots development was being neglected—he fought for local government autonomy. And what has changed really? Simply more power to his minions at the LG level.

Insecurity was ravaging communities—he introduced state policing. Lol. He is rushing to introduce state police now so that he won't be blamed for his incompetence in handling insecurity in the first place.

Fuel subsidy was crippling the economy—he removed it. Yes. But how has that translated to a better economy for the masses? It has only translated to more money for government to spend on its excesses.

Multiple exchange rates were distorting the market—he unified the FX system. Same person that said 217 was too high is now calling 1350 a genius move. Who is really benefitting from this high exchange rate? Certainly not the masses.

States were struggling financially—he increased allocations to them. States struggled to pay salaries because minimum wage was increased in anticipation of fuel subsidy removal which did not happen. Mind you, while some states had problems paying 18k minimum wage, small businesses had no problems doing that. Now that States can pay salaries easily how many small businesses can pay minimum wage of 70k today? In 2014, 18k was worth $82. Today, 70k is worth $52.

I agree with you. It's not about Tinubu. Nigeria, and black Africa, is a complex entity. The diversity is just too much. The only salvation for black people is for the white man to return and recolonize us for the next 100 years.

He confronted the problems he met on ground, only to create even bigger ones that have now overwhelmed him.

I also want him re-elected. I want him to stop or drastically reduce importation of petroleum products. In addition to the various reforms he has successfully carried out, I want him to expedite action on Almajiri and other out-of-school children reforms. Agriculture mechanization should be intensified with tractor assembly plants, while Ajaokuta and NASENI should replicate spare parts.
