The ten commandments, that God gave to Moses, and inscribed on two stone tablets, are found in Exodus Chapter 20 verses 1-17. ____________________________________ 20 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” |

Jesus modified these ten commandments into two commandments in the New Testament . Jesus said: 1. Love your God with all your heart and soul. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself. This is found in the Gospel of Mathew Chapter 22. Verses 37-39. Chapter 22. 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Does all morality come from the 10 commandments and the subsequent paraphrasing by our Lord Jesus Christ? I sincerely believe it does. The 10 commandments are the basis of all forms of morality and moral justice. Love God with all your heart and do onto your neighbor as you will have them do onto you. Good day everyone. |

TheMadame:Interesting. Don't you find it strange and egotistical that this God spends almost half of these commandments talking about himself and what he wants? Like I said,I find it interesting that an omnipotent God seems so insecure. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by TheMadame(op): 10:11am On Jun 27 |
Goosethetruth:God is setting out the basis and terms by which he will love and protect his people. It is a terms for an agreement. Once you agree to these terms you will come under the broad love and protection of God Almighty. These are very simple moral codes to follow. The terms set out in the beginning of the ten commandments are a miniscule price to pay to attain eternal life, don't you agree? |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Goosethetruth(m): 10:30am On Jun 27 |
TheMadame:Those first four commandments scream about the vanity and ego of the God in question. They scream,ME!ME!! and only ME!!! Don't you find it incredibly strange that there is no condemnation of a evil vice like slavery in these ten commandments? |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by TheMadame(op): 10:47am On Jun 27 |
Goosethetruth:I hope you know and understand that once you love your neighbor as you love yourself and do onto your neighbor as you would do unto yourself, you will not enslave them. Some of these laws simply need a thought process. It is not every morality that need to be written down. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Goosethetruth(m): 12:09pm On Jun 27 |
TheMadame:Interesting. I hope you know these Mosaic laws are plagiarism of ancient Babylonian/Akadian/Hamurabi laws that proceed them by thousands of years. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by TheMadame(op): 1:05pm On Jun 27 |
Goosethetruth:Plagiarism is a strong word, sir. There may have been Babylonian influences on the Mosaic laws but there is certainly no evidence of Plagiarism. If you have such evidence could you please provide a source for this your claim. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Goosethetruth(m): 1:33pm On Jun 27 |
TheMadame:You seriously need to educate and update yourself. The ten commandments you listed from Exodus are not the total and complete Mosaic laws. The Mosaic laws are found in Exodus, Chapters 17, 22,24,and 34. They are also found in Deuteronomy,Chapter 34. Leviticus,Chapter 26. Numbers. The book of Kings as well as the book of Joshua. These Mosaic laws touch on morality, society, purification, festivals, sacrifice and offerings and how to conduct them, instructions for selection of the priesthood and the tabernacle. Laws on the ark of the Lord. The food laws cover clean and unclean foods. The clothes laws cover allowed and forbidden apparel for the Israelites. The laws may not have been plagiarised but these laws were certainly influenced by earlier Babylonian civilisation. |

Goosethetruth:Sir, Check the title of the thread. This thread is based on the commandments in Exodus and not the entire Mosaic laws. You have still not provided a source that proves these commandments were not from God to Moses and that they were stolen from Babylonian moral laws. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Goosethetruth(m): 4:38pm On Jun 27 |
TheMadame:The point I am putting across to you is the fact that morality does not come from just a bunch of written laws on a stone tablet or a piece of paper. Morality stems from many different factors such as inate empathy. Evolution of empathy helps humans understand each other better. Secondly human reason helps people develop the aim of the greatest good for the greatest number of people. While I agree that religion may play a part in morality,it is obvious that as humanity progresses and thought process evolves, religion itself has to evolve and adopt the rules that benefit the greatest number of people in the society. Morality is inate. It is in born. It is the human ability to distinguish right from wrong. It does not totally come from a set of rules written in a religious book. It is the humans that wrote the rules in the religious books. |

Now adays, i don't live by the commandments. I am the commandments. My entire life is the commandments without me even trying. It is now my lifestyle. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by AntiChristian: 9:13am On Jun 28 |
Do Christians still need to obey the law? God gave the ten commandments to Moses for the children of Israel. Later Jesus emphasized two of the ten as the greatest. After Jesus, Paul cancelled the law! If you come to Paul with the law he'll roll with you like a lawyer. If you come to Paul as a law-less person, he'll roll with you likewise! |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Dtruthspeaker: 9:14am On Jun 28 |
TheMadame:Wrong! He did not modify it. He simply gave us the secret behind them. And any intelligent person can see that His Lightenment goes on all through the commandments eg. The 3rd commandment is like the second; and the 4th like the 3rd and so on. So, nothing was modified. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Dtruthspeaker: 9:17am On Jun 28 |
TheMadame:You are correct however, the 10 commandments do not stand alone. They are further reinforced by God's Ordinances, Precepts and Judgements. And these too contain all the moralities that are in the world. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by Dtruthspeaker: 9:24am On Jun 28 |
AntiChristian:Paul actually said obey the Law. 1 Thessalonians 4:2-8/11 &12. And more beyond Thessalonians |

Goosethetruth:If at all you succeed in making and producing autonomous AI robots, will your rules be about what you want or what they want? Ps 14:1: "The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good." |

Goosethetruth:Yes, there was already morality even before Abraham gave birth to Isaac and Jacob. But no book has ALL THE Moral laws man needs to know and live rightly above the Bible. That is the point of the op i believe |

All I know is God is love. All the covenants between God and his creations are about love. Morality stems from the love of God. |

Dtruthspeaker:I tend to ignore your inane posts in the religious section because of your one track mind but just look at where your one track closed mind took this discussion....Tinubu?! ![]() What has that got to do with the fact that the ten commandments are not original to Moses and the Hebrew God? The ancient Babylonians had written the codes of Hamurabi thousands of years before Moses and his ten commandments. What has Tinubu got to do with the fact that Morality is inate inside every human being or that morality evolves as mankind advances in knowledge and societal development? What has Tinubu got to do with the fact that morality does not come from words plagiarised and written on tablets of stone ? I know your usual modus operandi which is to resort to insults or try to derail threads. My last response to you. |
| Re: Morality and the ten commandments by gohf: 9:56am On Jun 28 |
TheMadame:it's not terms for Him to love them nor by which He will love them, for He already loved them but the terms where for them to CONTINUE in His love. And yea I agree. 💯 Amen |
