I have signed the NIMC Act 2026 into law. For nearly twenty years, Nigeria’s identity system operated under a law written for a different era. That era is over. This new Act gives our country a modern, secure, inclusive and digital identity framework fit for the Nigeria we are building; a Nigeria on the path to becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy. With this law, NIMC is now positioned at the heart of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure and National Public Key Infrastructure, providing the trust foundation for verified identities, secure transactions, digital signatures and the wider digital economy. The Act also strengthens the protection of citizens’ data. Personal information cannot be accessed carelessly, used outside its original purpose, or treated without regard for consent and due legal process. The privacy of Nigerians must be protected, and this law makes that clear. Your National Identification Number will now serve as a stronger gateway to critical services, including passports, voter registration, bank accounts, land transactions, telecommunications, pensions, insurance, tax payments, consumer credit and government services. One person. One identity. One number. I gave specific instructions that this law must also protect the vulnerable, the underserved, and Nigerians in the Diaspora. No Nigerian should be locked out of opportunity because they lack a trusted identity. The Act strengthens governance, expands representation on the NIMC Board, improves accountability, and introduces tougher penalties for identity theft, multiple registration, unauthorised access and abuse of the system. We will not tolerate those who forge identities, steal the identities of others, or exploit the system. I commend the National Assembly, the Honourable Minister of Interior, NIMC, our development partners, and all Nigerians whose support helped deliver this landmark legislation. Together, we are building a more secure, inclusive and prosperous Nigeria. This is the Renewed Hope Agenda at work. decatalyst:The enslavement agenda 2030 is not a gimmick. Countries worldwide are rolling digital ID out and CBDCs out worldwide. Tinubu is preparing to launch it in tandem with the e- Naira. Best thing for Nigeria is not to comply with the planned digital prison |

BrickandLace:Suffer no dey tire you guys? Why live in constant gaslighting. Remind me please. When was NIMC created? When did COMPULSORY NIN issuance (people died when queuing up for it. TELCO was fined trillions for not meeting the set deadlines) start? What was used to sell it to Nigeria? 1. Isn't it that Nigeria need a proper Data base (something that fall under National Population Commission scope) for planning and execution? 2. Isn't it that the security challenges would be totally curtailed, if not eradicated? BVN was also created to "monitor" terror sponsored, and corrupt individuals. How has these helped the Nigeria Nation, after spending billions of Naira to create and maintain them? |

edogu:You have forgotten the problem they gave us when Pantami said your NIN slip was more important than the National ID card. They are not interested in the information unfortunately. They even threatened to punish us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSj3w2mhNsM?si=TNTnVzL7jx4Sy0dg |

Titopeblog:Mike Ozekhome the alleged identity forger will have no room to escape justice. Mike Ozekhome, based on the findings in the judgment of a Crown Court in the United Kingdom is now alleged to have forged a traveling Passport to show that a fictional character known as Tali Shani to whom Gen. Jeremiah Useni transferred a property in his lifetime ( using Mike Ozekhome professional services) exists and that the fellow has transferred the property to him Mike Ozekhome. It's all about corruption by Nigerian public officials and the Nigerian professionals who help them hide and conceal the proceeds of corruption in Nigeria and overseas. Nigerians suffer when our common patrimony is stolen and that should concern us all. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, obviously in cahoots with Mike Ozekhome bought the property in a fictitious name because the funds used in the purchase were proceeds of corruption. When Jeremiah Useni died, Mike Ozekhome and Gen. Jeremiah Useni's son were caught by the U.K. system trying to transfer title to the son. Mike Ozekhome procured a forged travelling passport in the name of Tali Shani to prove he exists! A Lawyer who is found by a court in England to have conducted himself in that manner is not worthy of the Rank of Silk. It is not in doubt that he is not even worthy of being called a Legal Practitioner! In England that finding by the Court should lead to his name being struck off the Roll of Legal Practitioners. The Nigerian Bar Association pretends not to know what is going on and the LPDC is suddenly frozen!!! Mike Ozekhome over time has paraded himself as a human rights lawyer while he was busy colluding with Gen. Jeremiah Useni to steal money belonging to all Nigerians! |

Very welcome development.. I like how the NIN has become a standard means of ID all over from Banks to Passport registration.. However Govt should ensure more and more citizens are registered and physical cards be produced not just slips The country is getting there |
