The Enugu Water Crisis, Why Taps Are Still Dry (photo) by KendoXR(op): 6:43am On Jun 27
I grew up in Enugu, and the inequality in our water system is wild. If you’re in Uwani or around Holy Ghost, the water is so consistent you’d think you’re in another country. But drive just five minutes into other parts of the metropolis, and the story changes completely. You’re back to the mercy of N35,000 tankers.
This isn't just a "comfort" issue; it’s a massive loss of state revenue. When the system works in one street but fails in the next, the government is literally throwing money away.
The Bottlenecks.

• The "Last Mile" Disaster: We’re pumping high-pressure water into a 40-year-old asbestos pipe network. The pipes simply burst underground before they ever reach your house.

• Power & Topography: Pumping water uphill in a hilly city like Enugu requires a steady power grid. Every time the light blinks, the pumps stop and air locks the system.

• Economic Leakage: Because the reticulation is broken, the Water Corporation can’t bill effectively. We are losing billions in potential revenue that could be used for maintenance.

My Advice to the Govt:

1. Go Small to Go Big: Stop relying only on giant central stations. Build Mini-Water Schemes for specific neighborhoods like Trans-Ekulu or Emene. It’s easier to manage and faster to fix.

2. Digital Leakage Detection: We’re in 2026. Use IoT sensors to find pipe bursts instantly. We shouldn't wait for a "lake" to form on the road before we know there’s a problem.

3. PPP for Billing: Let private firms handle the "Last Mile" connections and revenue collection. If the water is constant like it is in Holy Ghost and uwani, people will gladly pay.
We don't need "propaganda water" we need the engineering discipline to make the whole city look like Uwani.

Why not quote Mba on x with this? What would Mba be doing here to see this or are you just entertaining?

When has quoting a politician in Nigeria ever worked?, there are people close to them here who will see it and recommend it to them. That’s the idea

This is not about region or politics. Someone made a post somewhere and i copied it to share here so it can somehow reach the right ears. Most times we criticize government on policies without offering alternatives or practical solutions to help guide them, na democracy we de do here and we should give opinions when it matters.

As if those places you just mentioned have pipeborne water provided by government they don't, rather they drill boreholes, enugu depends on government water supply cause even they drill boreholes it won't work cause of the coal beneath

Very true, Enugu case is unique because of topography but there are still ways to work around this issue

Enugu capital depends on Enugu State Water Corporation for water supply, people can't drill boreholes there cause of coal beneath

I believe from now to 2030 that's if he wins second tenure he will get it done before then, the plants are ready it's the distribution that is the problem, cause new pipes will have to be layed in areas that never had one, and those places that already had those pipes will be removed and replaced with new ones cause the pressure is busting the old pipes

You have direct information on this matter and am glad you are making clarifications so people go de believe, That’s one legacy he can make in Enugu metropolis that will outlive his government if he can do it.
