I Empowered Market Women In My Village With ₦10,000 - Peter Obi (Throwback Video by LegendHero(op): 4:13pm On Jun 28
In a market square in my village, I gathered ten women. After speaking to them, I told them I was going to give each of them ₦10,000. The reaction was incredible, they couldn't believe it. They told me that the total value of all the goods they were selling was only about ₦6,000 to ₦7,000. So by giving each of them ₦10,000, I had more than doubled the value of their entire stock."

Oga, do you actually know what the word 'once' means? Because it seems to be lost on you.

If I bought kerosene for 340 Naira "ONCE" in the past, does that mean that’s the price today? You're clearly just dodging the use of proper English but your argument is completely out of touch with reality.

You mean 10k has great purchasing power in 2023?

So if 10k can do magic in 2023, why are you condemning 50k in 2026?

Do you know that right before Tinubu assumed office and ruined everything, one could start egg retail business with as little as N5,000?
Per crate then was about N800-N850.

See them now laughing at a valuable N10k from way back that Tinubu himself has now rendered valueless.

Okay that video was 2023. Obi was narrating what he saw in the village.

Now tell me, if he empowered people with 10k then and then mentioned that it doubled their stock, what is bad in Remi Tinubu empowering people with 50k in 2026 if it could also double their stock?

He gave them money not as an office holder but as an ordinary citizen.

He didn’t say he gave them 10k to “start” a business. He gave them as gifts.

Nope he gave them to complement their business. He asked them how much is their total stock, they mentioned 7k. So he gave them 10k so as to double their capital and he mentioned that they were so happy and it helped their business.

Lastly, Obi is not an ordinary man. He was the former governor of that state and looted the state dry to stash in Pandora offshore.

Was Asiwaju an ordinary man pre 2023? Then why do you guys always attribute everything to him if he was indeed ordinary then?

Yes. That was 2022/2023 period.

Infact, he mentioned that he called them himself. His experiment was about showing that people are poor in Nigeria to support his “messiah” complex to come save them in the election.

It’s actually wild that you can’t tell the difference between a government grant and a personal gift. That’s a real shame.

If the First Lady had called it a "gift," nobody would be stressing. She’s probably handed out millions in private gifts before and nobody batted an eye. But calling 50k a "government grant" is just straight-up insulting. We don’t care about personal largesse—that’s her business—but rebranding our basic rights as "grants" and handing them out like peanuts is just a new flavor of slavery. It’s no different from the usual vote-buying we see everywhere.

Another woman narrating how her Akara business started with 12k.

While we don’t aspire to have a country where people live hand to mouth, we still can’t ignore the fact that they exists and everything that can be done to help them and ensure they grow in their business should be done.

Some of them are making it big if they are in the right location. I know the mama wey dey sell Akara for school back then na baller normally coz the sales she was making no be small thing.

It is not insulting, it is you that choose to be ignorant.

Go and watch that video again, she mentioned the billions she gave for other stuffs, mentioned they gave for ICT training and scholarships and etc. But because you guys are always fixated on sensationalism, they picked only the Akara part.

Now tell me, what is bad in giving people 70k to support their business if the capital they need is that amount? Would you rather we all act like those people don’t exist and neglect them because we must only give grant of 1m to educated people?

talking about 50k—please, enlighten us: what kind of business can anyone actually start with that? Or better yet, walk us through how you supposedly launched a successful akara kiosk with 50k. And let’s be real, it’s only fair that you or your own family members are out there running the same business for it to count.

Look, if you give 10 million naira to 10 people, you’ve actually empowered those families for the long haul. But throwing 5k at thousands of people? That’s just pocket change for a quick meal, nothing more. But I guess expecting that kind of logic to sink in is asking for too much.

her own family should also start since we lead by example or are the rich exempted from the suffering of the masses?

Class mentality is what is killing us and its unfortunate that the impression has been imprinted into the masses. We now believe as long as the rich aren't the ones suffering, everything is perfect which is very wrong.

Below is an example. Hear from the woman mouth and check the price of all the ingredients she is using.

Now come back to me and tell me if 50k won’t start her business. I am waiting.

What was Peter Obi in 2023 when he gifted some market women 10k naira each?

What is Remi Tinubu in 2026 when she said advised women to start roasting corn and frying Akara with 50k she said she empowered them with?

Note the key difference. The women Obi gave 10k each already have existing petty trades which they can inject the money. The women Remi Tinubu advised to start selling Akara and kulikuli were not doing such trade before.

No, her family cannot start because they are rich.

You can’t tell me to start selling Akara now because I’ve passed that stage.

That “class mentality” is what you are exhibiting here. You think everyone don’t deserve a chance.

You live in the delusion that everybody must be rich and government job is to ensure everyone is rich and can drive Benz.

There are people that sell Akara in 1960, there will be in 2026, and there will be in 2099.

Are you saying we should neglect them because the mandate is that everybody must be rich?

Obi was a former governor of Anambra, the same state that kept the women in poverty to the extent that they depend on Obi 10k grant for a lifeline for their business.

Now if you agree 50k can empower petty traders but your argument is that it can’t empower petty traders that are just starting afresh. So Remi argument is this, rather than beg and remain idle, take 50 - 70k and start something even if it’s selling Akara.

The same Remi gave scholarships, grants, even did a fundraiser running into billions for a library. Are you saying she should only focus on the educated and leave the less privileged to their fate?

eryone deserves a decent life, not just the "lucky" few.

If someone wants to start an akara business, why should it be a struggle? Why must it be under the scorching sun? If someone decides to brand their business properly and create a clean environment, that is called progress, not a crime. Your argument is honestly flawed because, while you're busy gatekeeping, you're only making the gap between the rich and poor wider.

What is actually wrong with having high-end akara spots? Why must we romanticize "starting from the gutter" and suffering for years just to buy a 1998 Mercedes while the elite are cruising in 2025 models? That mentality is just keeping us backward.
If you aren't ready to help the masses, the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut instead of insulting their hustle. If you can’t lift people up, don't add to their misery by looking down on them. Remember, that same "suffer-head" mindset is exactly how the almajiri system started in the North—don't normalize poverty for others if you wouldn't wish it on your own children.

Tinubu was also governor of Lagos state. There are thousands of women in poverty in this same Lagos you all claim he built. Tinubu is president now, he has thrown more Nigerians below poverty line than any government before him.

50k cannot “start” Akara trade as the First Lady advised. To start Akara trade for someone with nothing but 50k is impossible all thanks to Tinubu’s handling of the economy.

Peter Obi gives scholarships and donations as well. He even said at some point before he even went into politics he bought shops at trade fair in Lagos and gave them out to people and those people are still benefiting from that gesture.

But the government are miserable enough to fatten themselves while imposing tax on the citizens, our tax right?

Demanding for our rights and privilege means depending on others or making others atleast a little bit alive means depending on others?

I weep for this country and it citizens indoctrination.

You can pay tax with your below minimum income range salary while they pay themselves millions of dollars and give your parents 50k and then you called that depending on people or dont you know all public schools in America are free to the public and even better than private institutions?

Now I get why almajiri system thrive in the north.
