givedemwotowoto:For you to be in contest, you need to secure nomination from your home country. Just the same way you need to win primaries to be 9n the ballot box. If Buhari had favored another person, she wouldn't be in the contest to start with. |

givedemwotowoto:No she did not. Stop telling untruths, you have been corrected severally on this and you are still stubbornly insisting you are right when you clearly know you are wrong. Nigeria nominated Okonjo, a country must nominate you. America's candidate was Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea. Despite Okonjo having overwhelming support by October, Trump did not want her. The WTO president is chosen by consensus, so usually everyone must agree. As shown in the article below, even before Biden came, most countries around the world supported Okonjo, annoying Trump. Biden, who as a democrat typically has a global view, agreed within 2 weeks with the vast majority of all countries that she could become DG. If America always got their way and chose the DG, then their original candidate would have been sworn in ages ago. So clearly, USA stopped standing in her way but they were not the reason she became DG. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/423571-wto-us-objection-stalls-okonjo-iwealas-emergence-as-director-general.html?tztc=1 https://www.wto.org/english/news_e/news21_e/dgno_15feb21_e.htm

slivertongue:Thought I was the only one seeing through this BS. They probably “almost” resurrected Fela to have him added to the shortlist. This is most likely some type of damage control in response to Kenneth Okonkwo’s recent diatribe and possibly other folks that share his sentiment. Believe this, and you may likely believe anything. |

DeepSight:We all did. This was why many were willing to overlook the excess baggage that he came with and supported him. Clearly, he spent the entire 20 years he was out of power waiting to extract a pound of flesh from Nigeria and capture the Nigerian state like he has a vendetta against her. It's a big disappointment. |

AndroBlaze: Wickedfacts:Being nominated by your country is a requirement to contest, but can’t get you the job. Buhari had no influence among WTO members to help her win. His only job was helping her fulfill a single requirement. It was her goodwill and previous career achievements in the World Bank and other portfolio that earned her support from WTO member countries, not Buhari’s influence. Without these achievements and portfolio, she had zero chance of earning support from member nations. Still, If Biden had lost the 2020 election, it was highly unlikely that she would’ve been the WTO President because Trump backed Yoo Myung-hee. |

givedemwotowoto:Without Buhari's nomination she won't even stand any chance whatsoever. Give credence to whom it is due, it is a single requirement but the most important. |

AndroBlaze:South Korea did exactly the same thing, wrote hundreds of letters and called member countries. The only one with the power and influence was the United States, not Buhari. If Biden had lost the 2020 election, the story would’ve been different. |

casualobserver:But even after her US citizenship, will she have contested without Buhari's nomination? The US will still not have nominated her. |
| Re: Atiku Nearly Picked Okonjo-Iweala As Running Mate Before Settling For Amaechi by givedemwotowoto: 6:16pm On Jun 28 |
fergie001:Yes but it’s just a requirement that had to be fulfilled. US was the ultimate decider, and Trump went with the South Korean except that Biden won the election and changed it. We can’t say it was because of Buhari that she got the job, both candidates (Nigeria and South Korea) were nominated by their countries. It’s about who had the power to get her the job. US in this case. |
| Re: Atiku Nearly Picked Okonjo-Iweala As Running Mate Before Settling For Amaechi by fergie001(mod): 6:19pm On Jun 28 |
givedemwotowoto:Buhari played a vital role, let's leave it at that. He kick-started the process within which Biden will not have seen any NOI to nominate. If Buhari was to behave like the Buhari we know, he will not nominate her for obvious reasons. |
| Re: Atiku Nearly Picked Okonjo-Iweala As Running Mate Before Settling For Amaechi by AndroBlaze: 6:24pm On Jun 28 |
givedemwotowoto:No they were not. It is now clear you just want to be right by force. I have shown you clearly, from the WTO THEMSELVES, that every nation supported OKonjo except the USA....and because the USA refused to support her, they just delayed announcing a head, paralysing the institution, something Trump always does when he doesn't get his way. By normal logic, Biden nor the USA made her DG, the rest of the world did by standing firm. https://www.wto.org/english/news_e/news21_e/dgno_15feb21_e.htm

AMINDA:Personally I dont get it. And you know the funny thing? Nigerians really dont mind their leaders cutting deals and stealing within "reasonable" limits. Note the quotation marks around reasonable oh, I am not saying any stealing is reasonable. But if a President sorts himself out with a few tens of millions of dollars no one in Nigeria that I know will lift an eyebrow. It will be nothing. Even if it is publicized and proven it will not move anyone's opinion for the better or worse. But you see the set of leaders we have. Such "polite" stealing is not enough for them. They must do it to the level of billions of dollars. They must clean out in a way that the hundreth generation from them will be wealthier than some countries. They must hurt the country in a nasty way and deprive it of clear chances to rise and develop. Just look at the Fifteen Trillion Naira contract for the coastal road. Awarded without any public bid/ tender process, outside the rules of the Bureau for Public Procurement, no environmental impact assessments, nothing. And awarded to an international rogue who has been indicted in the US and Switzerland. And clearly a friend of the president and on whose board sits the presidents son. That is corruption writ large and in-your-face and that is impeachable but did you ever hear a whimper from the NASS? |

The U.S. President (Biden) had the final say, I maintain that statement. If he had chosen the South Korean, the outcome would’ve been different. You can rightly say Buhari played a key role and nobody will argue with you, but to say she became DG of WTO because of Buhari is a complete overreach. That level of influence can only be credited to the U.S. fergie001: AndroBlaze:

givedemwotowoto:As far as I'm concerned, their is little need to engage you further...as I see no difference between you and a typical white skin worshiping "black" South African. Trump did not get his way for 6 months yet Biden got his way in 2 weeks abi..... keep on with this logic Obidient! |
