A video currently circulating online has shown armed bandits flaunting large sums of cash allegedly obtained from ransom payments, sparking fresh concerns over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.

The footage was shared on Saturday by Bakatsine, a journalist known for reporting on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region.

Bakatsine, who shared the video on his X account, wrote: “This video shows bandits flaunting money obtained through ransom payments. May Allah bring an end to this tragedy and grant Nigeria lasting peace.”

In recent years, the kidnapping for ransom industry has been booming, particularly in the North-West and parts of the North-Central, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted communities, travellers, schools and farmers.

However, the assailants have expanded their operations to the Southern part of the country, abducting residents, travellers and killing some of their victims despite ransom payment.

If we say Nigeria is gone, it doesn't necessarily means that there's no Nigeria but that means there's no iota of leadership in Nigeria. Say something like this and those who claim their tribesmen are in leadership will attack you with fire and brimstone.
Now just tell me how this type of thing should be happening freely in a country with good leadership. Pres Bola has failed this country simple truth

As your opponents or circumstances become more skilled and dangerous, you too must evolve your defenses and strategies.
Survival requires constant adaptation to new threats.

No too much capping

A really simple way to stop ransom payment from being possible in the first place would be a new government policy mandating cashless transfers for any and all payments that exceed fifty thousand naira.

Furthermore, anyone opening a bank account or any other type of online account, should be mandated to submit a full set of finger prints, and pose for high resolution photographs showing the face clearly, from the front, the left and the right.

With the cashless currency regime fully implemented in Nigeria, all payments made to anyone and for any purpose will be traceable to a known person whose biometric data is on record and available to law enforcement officials. Anyone who dares accept a kidnap ransom payment into their personal or corporate bank account can in this way be traced for prosecution right away.

Nigeria should go cashless TODAY, as a means to end the circulation of untraceable cash that is the bread and butter of murderous kidnappers.

Only government can raise this type of cash. And they will come out to claim they don't pay ransom. Security agents and government officials are neck deep in this newly discovered 'crude'. Kidnapping is not ending soon. May almighty God spare us and our families.
