Ogun State Alone Can Decongest The Crowd In Lagos State. by Adexgentle005(op): 8:52am On Jun 29
When I move around in ogun state and see the kind of potential the state has, I don’t know why the state is still lacking so much development.

If ogun state can see a governor with vision and he’s intentional about infrastructure I swear ppl will move from lagos to ogun in their numbers.

Most house owners left ogun state because of bad roads . I know someone who left the house he built in ogun state just to be a tenant in lagos.

This is the best time ogun state govt should get it right and make the state viable to live and watch the state grow bigger than it is.

Ogun state will get it right sometime in the future. Hopefully when we have a transition from democracy to military style of leadership...

The problem is that the people who govern Ogun state live in Lagos and Lagos is where their hearts are.

The problem with most state governors is the free federal allocation they receive monthly. It hampers their capacity to think about revenue generation.
Future leaders of Ogun and Nasarawa States should go and understudy states like Maryland and New Jersey in the USA.

keep your otti to your abia state okay,we don’t want that kind of schools, hospitals, roads, airports and seaports and railways that he is constructing in Abia,we don’t want the kind of multinational organizations that he has attracted in ogun state

Ha, a thinking man's post on nairaland!

Seriously, you are right, but let's not focus on roads. A good railway system linking Lagos with parts of Ogun would enable people to live in Ogun and work in lagos without stress.

The problem is, revenue generation for most states is going to involve taxing more of the gdp at some point...which most nigerians do not want (ie more nigerians should pay taxes.).

And since most nigerians do not want taxes, the governors rely more on abuja money and loans...and the limited amount they get from VAT. (VAT that federal government collects can only pay for less than one fifth of the federal budget...which is why i laugh at people arguing about who should get vat.)

Ogun State needs a visionary, technocratically brilliant and innovative Governor.

A man of ideas who will be capable of thinking outside the box to maximise the huge potential the State has to make it a competitor to Lagos per best States of Nigeria

Yayi is incoming but I am not convinced he is that man. Let's hope he proves me wrong.

The clear truth is that, Nigerians will gladly pay taxes when given value for their money. I would never be happy to pay taxes that would be stolen in the end through corrupt means.
Let's put the right system in place that ensures transparency, is corruption-free, and truly punishes all forms of corruption and criminality.

No. Not correct. Wide off the mark even. The way the world works and develop is through an incentive and profit system. Give incentive to those seeking to make profit and they will help you achieve what you want.

What Ogun State has always lacked is charismatic and technocratrically brilliant leadership that will be able to attract profit-seeking investors, from all corners of the globe, who will assist the development of the State.

For example, huge arable land. Is it that hard to engage Netherland farmers who have mastered animal husbandry, to turn such into a huge part of the Dutch economy, to come and replicate same in Ogun State?

You are far off the mark bro. This has nothing to do with tax. It is about leadership aggression, ambition and capacity to develop a geographical space by engaging all and sundry to bring their investment might in exchange for ROI i.e returns on investment.

1. Most stealing happens because the money governors recieve is not from the taxes, but from the oil money and/or loans. So long as most government money is not coming from people's pockets, stealing happens

2. If most government money was coming from taxes you will get value for money, because otherwise what happened in france in 1792 will pale in comparison to what happens here.

Tax is a very good way to incentive's people to fight for better services.

3. In addition, oil money has never been enough to fund government budget for decades, because oil prices are not set by us. (Same issue with other african countries, just replace oil with things like gold, cotton, cocoa, platinum, diamonds, tungsten, etc, etc). Add poor tax to gdp ratio, and that means that most budgets have hefty deficits that must be funded by loans.

For example, a good sewer system for Lagos would cost three times Lagos budget...and that's the least it can cost. Lagos budget was 2.1 trillion naira. this year.

And even then, charistmatic and visionary leadership requires money, and that includes TAXES.

Tax to gdp for nigeria is less than the African average. Oil prices are for the most part never where we wish they were to be. And even if we started producing gold, and cotton, and cocoa and palm oil in large enough commercial quantities, forgetting that most everybody is doing it, it still can't yield enough

So, taxes, improving the tax to gdp and eventually running an industrial economy that uses our raw materials to produce goods whose prices we can control. ,,meaning more money.

I ain't far off the mark. Saner climes nations were charging taxes even when most of their people were not seeing the benefits. It took several tax revolts over the centuries for their governments to recieve sense.

You people and your obsesive nonsense

According to national governance benchmarks like the 2025 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index (SPI), Ogun State ranks higher overall (2nd nationwide), but Abia State leads in fiscal reform velocity
