naptu2:You are equally an entertainer to people like us too. Even if there is no gas cylinder in the pictures you posted,do you see number of equipment/materials used by each of them in producing the akara? What is the monetary values of those equipment in today's Nigeria economy for a starter? It is mockery and humiliation for the government official of that profile to give any woman 50k to start akara business. |

flokii:Are you sure you have read this article at all? The Op did a simple breakdown of the cost of starting Akara business, and the money amounted to about 63k. But the first lady offered them 50k to start the business. So the question sane Nigerians are asking is,is 50k enough to start Akara business? The Op cost analysis shows it is grossly inadequate. Instead of you to argue based on that line, you jumped to tribal bruhaha. Did the thread say Akara business is not profitable or that people should not do it? What's wrong with some of you sef? |

naptu2:Hello, the point people that understand things have been making isn’t that Akara, Kuli Kuli or agbado aren’t an honorable or viable business, in fact, they are very much food like every other food and food business is a leading business. The point they have been making, is that 50k can’t successfully set up the business from scratch. If you give 30 people that 50k in this economy, by the time they leave that centre and get home, it would have reduced to 47k. In ten years time, it will be hard to see 2 people tell you they successfully set up an Akara business with that amount. Frying pan alone is within the range of 20k to 30k. The statement from the First Lady shows two disturbing facts; - they are disconnected with the reality of the common Nigerians. It’s obvious they do not even knows how their government have made things bad. - the government she represents is wasteful. What she has in effect done Waugh those funds is that she has given people “dash” money. By now pay of them won’t have a kobo of that money left. The smart thing a smart government Wally’s have done and that would make more economic sense, is to instead of giving for example, 30 people that 50k, she should make tough economy decision and reduce the beneficiary number to ten and give each 150k. The chance of this amount doing something successful has greatly increased. To use an analogy: if you have 1k to be giving 20 people for feeding daily, that means each will get 50naira. In 3months, the 20 people will all be dead because there is no food you can buy with 50naira. But you can make a tough decision and reduce the number to 2 people. Those two people can continue surviving indefinitely if things stay the same on 500naira each daily. |

thinkmoney someone has already responded to you. 9jatriot:That amount was not just decided on a whim. It followed research by organisations like Bank of Industry. Read this thread. Oluremi Tinubu And Akara: Details Of The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) https://www.nairaland.com/8699909/oluremi-tinubu-akara-details-renewed And yes, some people are not arguing about the amount, they are arguing that it is bad. |

naptu2:🤣 I'll give you a dignified response the day you start selling kulikuli. Name me one great nation whose leadership lifted citizens out of poverty using street food as economic policy. I'll wait. In a country where over 65% of citizens live in poverty — who exactly is buying all this akara and kuli kuli? You cannot sell food to people who have no purchasing power. That is not an economic strategy, that is optics. Are these lasting solutions to the structural problems Nigeria faces? Epileptic power supply, unemployment, collapsed infrastructure, currency in freefall? To say I'm disappointed in your submission would be an understatement — but then again, this is the same person who once declared that Buhari was the best thing to happen to Nigeria. Nobody is saying street trading has no value — our mothers built lives from it and we honour that. The argument is that a sitting President and First Lady should be inspiring a nation toward systemic, scalable solutions — not handing out 50k and calling it empowerment. Nigeria deserves better. And frankly, so does your critical thinking. 😏 |

naptu2:You GUYS SHOULD STOP DEFENDING RUBBISH. We saw that video, we aren’t dumb. What she was doing is just picking any small business that comes to her mind, those are the ones she could think off that time. No research went into anything. How many banks give loans for someone to set up that kind of small scale Akara. She was just talking based on her knowledge and you can also see the reaction of people arounf her. Instead of us to join hands and criticize people that do not understand us or our situation you are just doing mental gymnastics and inventing defenses |
