A major contributing factor was the disruption caused as a result of changes the Club was forced to make to the Head Coach position over Christmas. From the speed the useless Directors released their own nasty statement, you should know it's their usual MO

Basically they had legal advantage over City cos they can prove City contacted Maresca while under contract which is a breach but is usual practice. So they can demand Maresca write anything they want in order to let City off the hook.

The reality is they completely ignored Maresca on all transfer matters, signing nonsense for him, dictated who he should play, even used the Medical team to force him to play players, briefed the press for 2 weeks before he left that he would be sacked, and now want us to forget all that and buy their version of events. Had they been even average employers rather than atrocious, Maresca would have seen out the year until Pep contract expired but they were incompetent with squad building, nasty, always briefing against him in the press, and forcing him to play players via the medical team.

City is the one in the wrong for not contacting Chelsea for permission to speak to Maresca and Maresca quickly signed the settlement in order to move on to his next job.
