My no 1 point in the link I posted strongly suggests that NYSC should be optional. You can't force me to love another tribe. You force a girl for sex/love, you all call it rape/ molestation!
Now the Federal Government of Nigeria force corpers to love another tribe -- now that do you all call that?

Well I think it's still better than before. But all this training etc might not be that successful .why not improve our educational curriculum to ensure this .and scrap the nysc .our national security need serious attention

No 3. is an avenue for LOOTING as this will authomatically direct the Government to increase the BUDGET for the orientation camp for the additioal weeks. The more the weeks, the higher the budget. All the analysis of entrepreneurship, digital skills, and specialised career streams were deceit and won't make the TEST of TIME

No 5. is just an avenue to POLITICIZED the program as the ruling party will use the opportunity to assigned their fellow men/women, just like the post of MINISTERS. If you lose an election, don't worry their is a POST awaiting for you. Moreso, this will LOWER the MORAL of the millitary personels as they will feel demoted.. I hope this doesn't cause WAHALA Sha (Kidnapping of NYSC Members to prove a point to the civilian rule of nysc program).

No 7. is another avenue for LOOTING. More BUDGET for redesigning the uniform. A new graduation ceremony for what exactly? I hope the military personnels won't feel BAD replacing the Passing Out Parade, their PRIDE.

Anyway, I'm still learning the KuliKuli-Akara business. it shall be well with me

If you actually understand the objectives behind the NYSC scheme in the country you will not seek for the scraping.

It's quite a pity that the scheme has been politically managed since the era of Terrorism.

What Nigeria needs now isn’t military development but economic empowerment of her youths. We aren’t facing external aggression but internal. So you mean the youths should be militarily empowered to face themselves?

Youths can be recruited for military engagement, definitely not converting an institution like NYSC for such purpose

Compulsory military service for what? Does the nation have hostile neighbours? Do you want them sent to Sambisa?

South Korea has compulsory military service because of NorthKorea, Singapore because of Malaysia, Taiwan because of China, and Israel because of hostile Arab neighbours and Iran. Ukraine now has it because of its war with Russia, and might retain it after the war is over.

Even the US once had compulsory military service because of the Cold War. It was scrapped because enlisted soldiers made better soldiers overall than conscripted ones. Milton Fridman referred to conscription as "army of slaves."

The question one should even ask is whether the institution serves any purpose today, and whether it should be scrapped to save money, or be continued.
