This world cup has shown that big names mean nothing... It's not enough to have star-studded teams but no real game plan.

Morocco is miles ahead of:

Belgium

...Maybe even England


Only France and Argentina stand above them, and not even by much tbh.

I think officiating in this tournament so far has been a tremendous improvement (aside England vs Ghana game), hence the surprising results we are witnessing. I hope it'll remain this way till the end though.

It's a very big possibility fir Argentina to get eliminated by Cspr Verde. Messi go cry water if that happens. Football has changed seriously. World cups traditionally held outside Europe does not favour Europeans. They generally don't just play well. I think Germany winning in 2014 was the only exception. France may do it due to the 'black' factor but I think it is Argentina's to lose....or even Brazil with the Ancelotti factor....who knows.

But spare a thought for the France of the old ages, (the country that started adopting nationals from its colonies into its team) a powerhouse of global soccer, a talent generator, the Netherlands or 'Neverlands'.... when, when, when....

Honestly, this round of 32 really changed my perspective of the world cup. Starting from S. Africa against Canada, then how Brazil narrowly survived (though I still think the Brazilian team is average), but then 2 heavyweights in Germany and Netherlands in just the 2nd knockout day, simply means teams now know that they are both 11 men on the pitch and don't need to fear the opponent's name or history.

Netherlands almost pulled that off against Morocco.

Morocco outplayed them for the entire game, yet they almost won with that lucky strike from Gakpo. With better defending, they would have nicked it... They could have won it during the shootout if their players were not being stupid by playing such weak penalty shots (Kluivert, Summerville and Timber).

Timber was just outrageous, tossing that ball away like that.

While Nigeria's attack will bring results, their defense won't hold up against elite teams... Senegal is currently all over the place for some weird reasons.

Morocco, on the other hand, is practically SOLID in almost all departments, especially midfield and defense... They are the only African team that effectively man-mark for over 90 minutes.

They may not have Nigeria's attacking and finishing quality, but they are more balanced, relentless and complete.
