Court Denies El-Rufai Bail, Orders Continued ICPC Detention by SlavaUkraini(op): 7:36am On Jun 30
A Kaduna State High Court has refused the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, ordering that he remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Justice Dirisu Khobo ruled on Monday that El-Rufai’s application “lacked merit”, saying the former governor failed to provide sufficient evidence to justify the court’s discretion to grant him bail.

According to the judge, the application did not present “reliable evidence and convincing documents” capable of supporting the request for bail.

The court also held that the defence failed to establish any “exceptional circumstances” that would warrant his release while the trial is ongoing.

Despite denying bail, the court directed the ICPC to allow El-Rufai unrestricted access to his medical team or any medical facility of his choice within Nigeria for treatment while in custody.

The judge further ordered that the former governor remain in ICPC custody and adjourned the case until July 7 and 8 for the continuation of the hearing.

El-Rufai is facing a nine-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office and related offences.

He was first arraigned on March 18, 2026, alongside the Managing Director of TMDK Terminal Limited, Amadu Sule.

The ICPC initially filed a 10-count charge against the defendants, accusing them of alleged abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

However, the commission later amended the charges after withdrawing Sule from the case, leaving El-Rufai as the sole defendant

Well, he used his hands to do himself, I just kept wondering what he was thinking when he carried Tinubu matter for head during 2023 election, Shebi he ensured Tinubu became president and Tinubu is rewarding him for it...

Imagine looking at Peter Obi and Tinubu and you choose Tinubu, you see this thing called tribal and religious bigotry can sometimes make intelligence, education, logic and even common sense look useless, chai!

This is a classical case of witch hunt, though he deserves whatever is being dished out to him and even more.

Politicians don't just learn, the injustice and rascality you encourage/perpetuate today can be returned back to you/friends.

Truly, the blood of Southern Kaduna martyrs un-alived by the short midget during his eight- year tenure is crying for vengeance. And the universe will see to it that justice is served 😎

As hated as El-rufai is, one just can't help wondering the extend this administration will go to throw charges at political opponents and then the courts will ask for "evidence" to grant bail for a charge as low as fraud and abuse of office.

Nigeria, where we dey go?

This elrufai challenged Buhari and Emefiele on cash scarcity for the sake of Tinubu, he supported Tinubu in place of his friend CRA, went to Chatham House, and used his hard earned wisdom to defend Tinubu, even when Tinubu obviously does not have a blueprint. Now look at him, he was thrown under board after 3 months of Tinubu

BAT did no wrong regarding El Rufai's ministerial ambition.
See, when you're applying for a job and people that work with your aspiring boss give bad references that are glaring and convincing about you, bro, there's nothing your boss can do.

Where was bad reference when he defended him in Chatham House?

Who are the people? Is it not Elrufai who is suppose to be in Tinubu kitchen cabinet?

I have no pity for El Rufai. This reminds me of what Peter Obi did to him during the Anambra state elections, where he was held locked down at F Hotel until after the elections had been concluded.

History is happening to him again a second time 🤣🤣🤣
