| Former Nigerian Minister Uche Nnaji Arrested by ogododo(op): 12:48pm On Jul 01 |
The immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was arrested on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on arrival from Enugu via a chartered flight. Authoritative sources at the airport confirmed the arrest to PREMIUM TIMES, saying Mr Nnaji would be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for interrogation. The ICPC had been on the trail of the former minister since he resigned from office last year following investigations that revealed he forged his academic certificates. In mid-June, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the ICPC to arrest Mr Nnaji for investigation into the certificate forgery scandal. Beyond the arrest order, the court also granted the commission leave to declare him wanted through national newspapers, social media platforms and other media. Add as a preferred source on Google The ICPC had told the court that its ex parte application followed Mr Nnaji’s repeated failure to honour invitations extended to him for “investigative activities” over the forgery allegations. The ICPC’s invitation to Mr Nnaji followed a two-year investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, published in October last year, which found that the then-minister forged his University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates. He had submitted the forged documents to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate during his ministerial confirmation in 2023. The newspaper’s findings showed that the forged bachelor’s degree and NYSC certificate were also presented to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the State Security Service, and the Senate. The former minister later admitted that UNN never issued him a degree certificate, an admission that validated this newspaper’s investigation. Mr Nnaji had initially denied the existence of the court order against him, describing a PREMIUM TIMES’ report as a “media trial.” On 18 June, Mr Nnaji filed an appeal against the arrest order at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, according to a notice of appeal exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/892076-breaking-former-nigerian-minister-uche-nnaji-arrested.html |

Hope some people won't add tribal coloration with this arrest |

But national assembly of thieves with collabo of timlubu made certificate forgery legal when they passed a law that no one shall be disqualified after election because of forgery. And ICPC was in coma when that law was passed. |

The ICPC has become a pun in the hands of politicians to be used against political rivals. Uche Nnaji is the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Enugu and someone is clearly afraid. Did the president not amend the electoral act to legalise certificate forgery and age falsification? When will Femi Gbajabiamila be invited for questioning? |

jmoore:You are clearly distressed by the thief's arrest. However, while you lament, bear in mind that no amount of tears or outrage will alter the course of his prosecution. |

AMINDA:Stop posting nonsense and misleading the public with false information. Cite the specific amended section of the Electoral Act in support of your claim. Also post the actual section of the act which was amended. |

jmoore:So because of this Nnaji is justified? |
| Re: Former Nigerian Minister Uche Nnaji Arrested by Lifestone(m): 1:20pm On Jul 01 |
AMINDA:Gubernatorial candidates with forged results. |
| Re: Former Nigerian Minister Uche Nnaji Arrested by AMINDA: 1:25pm On Jul 01 |
Lifestone:Well, same argument can be made about some presidential candidates. Uche Nnaji was a Minister under Tinubu until a few months ago. He was amongst the list of candidates that were cleared by the Nigerian senate after a supposed background check by the DSS. What does that say about the quality of such checks if his certificate forgery only got found out after he vehemently resisted the defection of the then PDP governor, Peter Mbah, to the APC? An event that also saw to the dissolution of the entire APC excos in Enugu state at that time. Once law becomes a weapon of convenience in the hands of those entrusted to enforce them, we are heading into the abyss. |

Good! Let him face the consequence of his fraud. Meanwhile the NASS under this present dispensation have excluded certificate forgery prosecution in the amended electoral act |
| Re: Former Nigerian Minister Uche Nnaji Arrested by AMINDA: 1:32pm On Jul 01 |
Richtaiwo:I will humour you. Section 134(3) was expunged from the new electoral act. Section 134(3) was about stopping candidates from challenging other candidates, concerning allegations of presenting forged certificates to INEC. Section 134(3) went beyond forged certificates. Age, citizenship, and those who have been sentenced to death or imprisonment, or convicted of an offence involving dishonesty within a period of less than 10 years before the election in question etc, were all covered by the 2022 EA’s Section 134(3) that was expunged in the 2026 amendment and we all know why. |

Jossyman0007:If it is Tinubu you are calling the chief forger, mention what he forged without sounding stupid. And if it his his certificate you are referring to, his school has confirmed it and it is all over the Internet. However, do you know how blockheads are described? Especially the blockheads that keep asking questions that have been answered and indeed, such answers are all over the places? I will humbly explain to you if you attempt quoting me again. |
