The pain of losing world cup escalated everything.

They are painting a picture that all the crimes are committed by foreigners. These Southies are some of the most violent and animalistic people ever to walk the earth. People that have no qualms robbing bullion vans and killing officers at will. People that rob and kill themselves are now conveniently blaming foreigners for all that has gone wrong in their country.
Let's see if South Africa will eventually become an eldorado once the foreigners are gone.

So South Africans should ignore the mass invasion of illegal foreigners in their country and the element of criminality especially drug trade from Nigerians ? You want them to run away and be burden in other countries like Nigerians?
Stop using the word "foreigners" to cover your hate against the people you are targeting which is the black foreigners

You know you can't do shit to the white foreigners in your country, even when they poop on you

SA could face the ripple effects of how they've been treating other Africans recently and the image they've projected of themselves to other African countries soon enough....this is a country that Africans rallied behind and gave them all forms of supports during apartheid and this is how they chose to pay them back while turning a blind eye to what could be regarded as the real threat (the whites) controlling most of the critical infrastructures and economy in their so called "country" . undecided

Nonetheless....provided this protest is a peaceful one, then there is nothing wrong with it....at least they have the courage to demand what they want those they elected into office to do unlike a certain west African country that's been declining at an alarming rate....in all thy doings, do things in the right way and remember that there is tomorrow and in that tomorrow, the tables could turn.
Hope we remember that not long ago ISRAEL citizens were packed in group into SA. I believe USA and Israel already told SA to send away other Africans and they are doing that right now

By the time ISRAEL begin to kill south Africans they will be so helpless to the point that Nigeria will have to send troops to help ISRAEL to finish SA citizens due to the nonsense and senselessness they are currently doing

So, if USA and Israel is promising SA that they will turn SA to a new USA I expect them to think that what is the gain of the PALESTINIANS

You always run away from addressing real issues of Nigerians invading other countries illegally and their involvement in criminality especially drugs
And you South Africans don't invade other countries illegally as well; dealing on drugs?

Stop your rant!

Nairaland is international platform. Others reading. Therefore,be circumspect in highlighting our domestic problems and grievances.

Stop Igbo this, Yoruba this please. Let's unite like South Africans in moment of grief. After all, they have their differences but united in forging a national course.

Be guided please with your comments.

Dubai, Indonesia, Ghana, South Africa chasing away Nigerians. All Nigerians do is run from pillar to post instead of fighting for their country like others.

What you doing in a Nigeria forum? Since you don't want other Africans in your country, you should as well avoid their platforms. Go create randland and get out from here... We don't need you here

As Africans we do not want to address the issue of mass invasion of illegal foreigners in South Africa because is xenophobia , let’s not talk about the criminal element within foreigners because is xenophobia, lets not address the issue of foreigners burdening the public healthcare and public education because is xenophobia. Actually let’s blame South Africa for our people being illegal in South Africa. Actually there is no foreigner in Africa, South Africa should be borderless to all African countries while our countries are managed by immigration law. I guess South Africa is indeed xenophobic.#take accountability not blame South Africans for demanding law to be enforced

As callous as it is, it is their right.
It is their country. Let us fix our own countries.

Will, criminality, abuse of women , drugs , killings stop ...after all foreigners have left south Africa?....what you don't know is that 90 percent of those crimes are committed by South Africans...

We will see whether the drug trade will stop in South Africa after all foreigners have left ...an average South African loves drinking and smoking, looting and robbing people.. grin

Chase away illegals and reform your organization, that is your right. But chasing legal business owners and individuals who employ your brothers is not the way to go.

If you have a drug problem, reform your drug agencies.

But you will agree that it's not the place on non-state actors to start enforcing immigration laws. where are the immigration officers, the police etc. there are laws.

*Xenophobic protests/attacks in South Africa* — mainly targeting foreign nationals, especially from other African countries — have had real economic and reputational costs.

Here’s the breakdown:

*1. Economic Consequences* 💰

*A. Damage to Local Businesses & Investment*
1. *Looting + destruction of shops*: Many foreign-owned spaza shops, tuckshops, and salons get torched or looted during unrest. That wipes out livelihoods and small-business capital.
2. *Supply chain disruption*: When areas like Gauteng townships shut down, deliveries stop, workers can’t get to work, and local markets lose income for days.
3. *Investor confidence drops*: Foreign investors watch political/social risk closely. Recurring xenophobic violence signals instability. The 2019 attacks saw several countries, including Nigeria and Zambia, recall diplomats and threaten boycotts of SA goods.

*B. Trade & Regional Relations Hit*
1. *AfCFTA + SADC tensions*: SA is the biggest economy in Africa and a key driver of the African Continental Free Trade Area. Xenophobia undermines SA’s leadership role. Countries like Nigeria, Malawi, Zimbabwe have protested and boycotted SA brands/products.
2. *Retaliatory action*: After 2019 attacks, Nigeria’s MTN, Shoprite, and Multichoice stores were vandalized in Lagos. DSTV subscriptions and Shoprite footfall dropped temporarily.

*C. Tourism Impact*
1. *Travel warnings*: Countries including the US, UK, and Nigeria have issued advisories to citizens in SA during flare-ups.
2. *Event cancellations*: Conferences, sports, and cultural events lose hosting opportunities when SA is seen as “unsafe for foreigners.” Tourism contributes ∼7% of SA’s GDP, so any dip matters.

*D. Labour & Skills Costs*
1. *Brain drain*: Skilled migrants — doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs — leave or avoid SA. That worsens SA’s own skills shortages.
2. *Informal economy losses*: Foreign nationals run many spaza shops and services that keep township economies alive. When they leave, prices often rise and access falls.

*2. Global Perception Consequences* 🌍

*A. “Rainbow Nation” Brand Damage*
SA markets itself as Africa’s democratic, inclusive hub. Xenophobic violence contradicts that image. Media coverage often uses headlines like “Africa’s most industrialized nation attacks Africans,” which sticks internationally.

*B. Diplomatic Fallout*
1. *AU + UN criticism*: The African Union and UN Human Rights Office have repeatedly condemned the attacks.
2. *Strained bilateral ties*: Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and others have summoned SA ambassadors. It complicates cooperation on security, trade, and migration.

*C. Soft Power Loss*
1. *Cultural + business boycotts*: #BoycottSouthAfrica trended on X after 2015 and 2019 waves. Artists, influencers, and consumers in other African countries pulled back.
2. *Reputation for xenophobia*: SA is often singled out in global reports as the country where “Afrophobia” is most visible, even though migrants face issues across the continent.

*D. Impact on Foreign Direct Investment [FDI]*
Ratings agencies and investors factor “social cohesion risk” into SA. Persistent unrest makes SA look riskier than peers like Kenya or Morocco, raising borrowing costs.
The economic damage is both direct — destroyed shops, lost trade — and indirect — a weaker SA brand in Africa, which is SA’s largest export market.

That's why I told you that you didn't understand my post......the negative effects I was talking about was mainly about past/present xenophobic events like keeling, intimidating and destroying the properties of foreigners in the name of chasing illegal immigrants away which is cruel and unlawful not this particular protest.....I have never been against citizens coming out to demand that the leaders they election do what they want....I even commended them while hoping that it stays peaceful.
