"If you're paid to play drums in church, you'll never get rich" — Pastor David Ibiyeomie Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder and presiding pastor of Salvation Ministries, has stirred debate after expressing reservations about paying church instrumentalists for their services. Speaking during a recent sermon, the cleric questioned the practice of compensating musicians, particularly drummers, for ministering during church programmes. He maintained that service in God’s house should be driven by devotion and a desire to honour God rather than financial gain. Citing Exodus 23:25, which states, “You shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water,” Ibiyeomie said divine blessings are attached to selfless service and dedication to God. According to the pastor, individuals who focus primarily on financial rewards for church assignments may limit themselves to the wages they receive instead of experiencing what he described as God’s greater blessings. Debate over paid ministry roles The remarks have generated widespread discussion among Christians and church leaders, with many expressing differing opinions on whether church musicians and other workers should be financially compensated for their contributions. While some believers agree that ministry should be rooted in sacrifice and service to God, others argue that instrumentalists and church workers invest significant time, skills and resources in their duties and therefore deserve support for their labour.

What a harsh thing to say. Yet, Jesus Christ said to His disciples the labourer is worthy of his hire. "...you will never get rich"? If men were God... Like I've stated before; if you're a Christian, get to know the Word of God for yourself, to avoid being swayed here and there with all kinds of teachings. |

The pastor is on point. But I will rather put it this way, If Money is your Motivation in your service to GOD, You are a Joker. |

Hehehehe. But when you go to minister in other churches you get paid. You call it honorarium. Sick..... When you invite guest artist to minister you pay them. But you want the drummer who comes for every service in the week and plays for multiple services on Sundays not to get paid. Na very few of us go dey that heaven NwokoloOwa:That's the interesting part the pastor is paid from the tithes. He is a minister of the word, the drummer also ministers via his drumming but the pastor doesn't want the drummer to get paid for his ministration When the church needs money pastors ask members for donations but when member when the members need money the pastors ask the members to have faith and look up to God. They start telling members that God will provide according to His riches in glory. As a matter of fact, some will tell their members to sow the little they have so they can real more..... See eh. It is easier to find helpers in a bar or lounge than a church. People have gotten jobs and contracts while sitting and talking over a bottle of beer in pubs than they do in churches |

Righteousness2:He didn't misquote the Word of GOD. He's on point. The Word of GOD is clear, and not complicated like most people believe, so that they think they need "pastors" to interpret it for them. That is not always so. |

Righteousness2:Which point? Aren't full time pastors paid in cash and in kind? Even Paul said (Bible) Teachers should be paid which they don't follow. If the pastor does not want to pay a drummer (demanding payment), he should pull off his suit or agbada and drum himself. |

Do some pastor get paid for preaching, if Yes then every workers in church should be paid. In some churches do cleaners get paid for cleaning the house of God. Do security men get paid for securing the church. Do church administrator get paid , So drummers should also be paid. It is now left the person to reject the pay or sow it back to the church due to personal encounters with the Lord |

They will come for him now. The sons of perdition will start blasting him for nothing they know nothing about. The church is the body of Christ and it has it systems. Playing drum is a service to God not a ministry in itself. So are the singers, the ushers and those who clean the church. They all minister with their services. It's God that blesses your service not you demanding for payments. Let the pastor occasionally gift you as a freewill. |

Lol... That means Pastors, priests and vicars being paid to serve as clergymen will be poor for life. ![]() I don't indulge in calling out clergymen like this guy, but it always amazes and amuses me how they selectively preach against things that are an inconvenience to them personally, not necessarily because those things are scripturally disavowed. |
