The reality is that there's a change of guard and people benefitting from it.

A company linked to Gowon is reportedly in charge of the bulk orders for the current uniform.

Best believe that someone else is in prime position to benefit from the proposed Adire attire. Someone probably close to power. They'll, of course, disguise it.

You know it won't work, if another Oga Buhari comes to power we would wear Fulani regalia and hold a stick on our shoulders. Although it would be a good thing if the dress code is localized per region, after all the goal is cultural immersion.

A very dumb idea. They should leave the uniform as it is. Its a uniform well recognised allover the country. It even helps in security because some even believe corpers are part of the forces. adire conjures no respect and besides adire go tear.

Adire is not strong enough to withstand multiple washings like that or is it?

And the idea of NYSC was to send you to another part of the country to know it. If I school in Lagos and serve in SW, I will never visit Akwa Ibom state of nothing takes me there. May be better to keep some areas put of NYSC deployment and fix insecurity

Don't you think adire won't be durable for the kind of movement they do on a daily basis while serving? Unless they mean adire branded khaki material.

It is a misplaced priority because adire material can never be as durable as khaki because most people doing NYSC have no time to be washing adire on a regular basis

Kinda funny but good for Nigeria local content that they've been Preaching. Let's see how this pans out.

But don't you think you guys are getting it wrong?
The current NYSC uniform is not just a uniform, but a Khaki uniform in every word of it.
It was made for conditions where other wear cannot be sustained, such as stress, wear, and tear. It is a PARAMILITARY dress.
It was not meant for fashion in which "local content" can replace.
It is just like saying you want to change the police uniform or soldiers' wear to Khaki to prove local content.

Biodun, there is something that tells you guys that you share similarities with Northerners.
Funny enough, that same thing that tells you that doesn't even whisper the same thing to the Northerner who doesn't see ANY connection between you and their culture. Outside your Ogun, Oyo, Lagos,....Kwara, Kogi, etc., no one knows any Adire.

Isi-agwu is what we see everywhere and it's not native to Nigeria. The other one you mentioned is doing well at Igbo Ukwu museum, let's leave it there cheesy

You are missing the point.
NYSC was established explicitly to foster national unity, integration and a sense of shared Nigerian identity among young graduates from diverse ethnic, religious and regional backgrounds. Forcing corps members to wear a fabric strongly identified with Yoruba cultural heritage directly contradicts that mission.
Nigeria is not a Yoruba State
