By Odo Oya, I’m sure you’re trying to put Kwara and Okun together into a state. If that is your intention, then it should remain a state in the North Central and not south west. We will create Ibadan state out of the south west to get to 7. What you’ve proposed is simply an attempt to shortchanged the south west.

States should be granted on demand as the Midwest was granted in 1963 but a state with 2 million dollars in revenue should not by any means expect to have the same number of senators as another state with 20 million dollars in revenue

Western Nigeria messed up in 1960 by agreeing to join Nigeria when it was far more advanced than the rest of Nigeria

Western Nigeria had a budget of 55 million pounds in 1960, the North had 7 million pounds and the East had 12 million pounds. Yet our people in the west agreed to go into such a union and we and Nigeria at large are yet to recover from that decision

There's no region that has benefited more from Nigeria than the south west. As the seat of federal government for decades, it got the higher share of national resources, institutions and infrastructure. South West benefited from Nigeria more than Nigeria benefited from the south west.

On the SW benefitting more, how can that be when the SW with over 55 million people have 18 senators and just over 70 reps maybe six standard federal universities, six standard federal polytechnical, six standard fmcs and many other things like that as against the SE with 19 million people having more or less the same things with people working there and all their senators and reps etc collecting fat salaries? Look at the way the VAT and CIT being collected by the current admin is being shared, look at how it heavily favors the SE. That is exactly how everything being shared in Nigeria since the colonial era favors the SE. You are totally wrong that the SW is the chief beneficiary of Nigeria because that title goes to the SE without an iota of doubt

This is not true. The population of South West is 27 million according to Nigeria's last official population census. If you even remove immigrants from other states and temporary residents in the south west that number would plummet significantly.

In Federations like Nigeria, USA ...e.t.c Equal representation in the in Senate is a key safeguard. Smaller or less populous states would not have joined the federation if they will be permanently outvoted or exploited by bigger ones. In diverse countries like Nigeria, states represent ethnic groups. Equal treatment prevents tyranny of the majority ethnic groups where a few with bigger population or richer in resources will dictate terms and bully smaller states. It encourages national cohesion by ensuring every state has a voice in critical matters.
