You don't have to, Nigeria is not a serious country. Their government don't value their citizens that much. If terrorists are operating freely like business men, then mere xenophobia means nothing...

Anyone saying Nigeria should take over MTN and nationalise it or force the sale of the company to a Nigerian should not forget that we have a purely Nigerian company in the Telecoms sector as well. A company that prefers spending money on celebrities than improving its quality of service. That company is Glo. Can we confidently say Glo can be as reliable as MTN?
mtn don't spend om celebrities I guess, glo is on awareness to buildup, is only airtel don't do that shit, but on it mtn deserves it if it happens to them, the kept quite in all this even though there government knows this is a top company in diaspora that is bringing funds to SA , yet the keep mute, let them go sit down

Everybody in the industry knows that this is because of the singular way Glo is run. Has nothing to do with it being a Nigerian company. Same Glo when pack Indians full the place pass the local Nigerians? The Nigerians running MTN Nigeria are the reason it is now the number one revenue generating company in the entire MTN Group

If they can do this, they will will the heart of their customers. This is a wonderful part of C.S.R . The funny thing is that the amount doesn’t even need to be “big” , however, it will drive a very huge profit and sustainability for them because Nigerians and indeed their customers in Nigeria will believe they aren’t in support of Xenophobia

MTN is a privately-owned business. How can it be held accountable for the wrongdoing of the Citizens of a nation it is linked to ?

This is crude and no different to demanding innocent children be punished and jailed for the sins of their parents.
Brilliant

TopBanter:
It is the Nigerian Government that must take the lead and cut off trade ties with South Africa if they are serious and not about playing to the gallery alone and empty sabre rattling.
Not brilliant. Cutting off trade ties will hurt us too.

Government must think of the national interest. I don't really think there's much Nigeria can do to hurt South Africa that won't amount to cutting off your nose to spite your face. Remember there are SA investors here exploring where to put their money as we speak. And there are Nigerian investors over there too.

We should take our L (whatever that means) and move on.

Of course, citizens can boycott MTN, Multichoice and others. That's how you respond to things like this.

Your submission is not valid sad
Chelsea FC was owned by individual who eventually got punished by the UK government just because he's a Russian.
You guys always drop this inane example of Chelsea FC and Abramovich. Abramovich is a Russian Oligarch Putin brought into billionaire wealth like many others.

Putin declared war against Ukraine NATO and the world felt was wrong and sets a bad precedence because it means strong nations can simply invade weaker ones at will with disregard for international law making the world more gladiotorially dangerous.

Of course the world, minus engaging Russia in outright war which could be catastrophic because of the possibility of nuclear warfare, felt they must move against Putin via sanctions and limiting cash available to him via his billionare Oligarchs.

How is this Chelsea takedown of Abramovich something you should even cite when the examples are so dissimilar? Has Abramovich himself complained anywhere to date?

Russian Oligarchs are gloried capitans of Putin who will fund him with their billions even if he is committing genocide openly because he literally made them billionaires overnight with partisan and nepotistic acquisition of wealth.

How is MTN NIgeria, that has the identity of our nation, connected with xenophobic attacks in SA as Russian Oligarchs remain a threat because of how they can be funding Putin with their assets in the West like Chelsea FC?

In as much as I do not like what those south Africans are doing to nigerians and other blacks

Going against MTN may not be good for us...how many Nigerian telcom companies compete and provide services comparable to what mtn is providing.
The massive corruption in the country would not let nationalising it to work

We can work against DSTV because those ones have not hidden their exploitative tendencies from the beginning

But for me, leave mtn alone

Your comment shows how ignorant and senseless you are...grin grin grin

Firstly, When MTN was exploiting Nigerians that per second billing is not possible and charged Nigerians for one minute even if they spend just 10 seconds on call, Glo came to the rescue.

Secondly, when MTN and other networks could not function because of Global Internet outage, Again, Glo was the only Network provider that worked in Nigeria because of the investment they already had in underwater cable.

Glo have cheaper Call and Data plans than MTN, Glo don't steal your data like MTN does (do your research the complains are all over the Internet).

I don't work for Glo but I can tell you that the exit of MTN from Nigeria will be a welcome development because we already have a better alternative...grin grin grin

When USA was dealing with iran economy during dis war
Was USA fighting with d citizens so the natural thing is dat when it comes to issues like dis who so ever go collect go collect
But from another side can Nigeria manage MTN by it self

Well-said. No race in the world that emotions rules their reasoning more than the black man. Especially that of the African variety.

Oya na. Let Nigeria nationalise and take over MTN and DSTV. We will see how they will match the efficiency both companies work with given we have never built anything similar in terms of service delivery and quality.

I don't even bother with glo since a few years ago when I used it and my experience showed me 10 GB data package effectively equals 500 mb because of poor reception meaning your cannot browse reliably over the expiratory period of your subscription.

Just imagine how an adult thinks, are you ok at all?

Was the businesses looted by black South Africans in South Africa owned by the Nigerian government? Aren't they owned by private citizens? I swear you no well...grin grin grin

Just as the Nigerian government doesn't own MTN, any attack on private Nigerian businesses in South Africa should always be reciprocated by attacking private South African business too in Nigeria...this is common sense...grin grin grin

The reason I mention trade war is to expose the hypocrisy of Nigerians.

If Nigeria has the balls let us go there against SA rather than targeting SA-related businesses in Nigeria who provide services no Nigerian company can match.

We do not even have shame in Nigeria. Adenuga's glo is a joke, sorry to say, and we have nothing like DSTV provided by any Nigerian while NTA looks like 1960 TV.

The real solution is for our diplomats to provide better representation for Nigerians worldwide.

You're fired.

But Nigeria don't have the balls to punish anyone due extreme corruption.

BAD LEADERSHIP AND CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA IS THE WORST GLOBALLY.
Yes there is endemic corruption in Nigeria but this one is more than that, Nigeria government can't just chase them away because of revenue government is making from them and there are also many Nigerians working in the company.
