Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has come to the rescue of a young Nigerian graduate whose scholarship dream was about to slip away.

Adisa Blessing Oluwafikayo graduated with a First Class in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin (CGPA 4.76) and was awarded a fully funded Master’s scholarship at the University of Calabria in Italy. But she couldn’t afford the relocation costs — visa, flight and settling in came to about €3,100. She opened a GoFundMe and had only raised around €400.

Her post went viral on X yesterday, and Saraki responded publicly, telling her he would cover the full cost himself. His exact words: “No young person who has worked this hard should have such an opportunity limited by the cost of getting there.”

His office has already reached out to her and the payment is being processed.

Whatever anyone thinks about politics, this is a big win for the girl. First Class in Mathematics is not beans.

She could have been sent to UK directly for her PhD by state government or FG. No need to learn language first.
