Thousands and thousands of people are streaming through to pay their respects on the second day of the public farewell ceremony for the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

We know that tomorrow, in the capital of Tehran, there will be a funeral procession, and we are expecting millions of people to attend.

Also on the schedule, the bodies of Khamenei and his slain family members are also going to be taken to the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf in Iraq.

Later, they are going to be buried in the city of Mashhad, the birthplace of the Iranian Supreme Leader.

Iranians call for President Trump’s death at Khamenei funeral

Calls have rung out for the killing of US President Donald Trump in the crowd of hundreds of thousands of mourners in Iran’s capital.

Ziba Naderi, 42, a nurse attending Khamenei’s funeral, said Iranians need to follow whatever new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei commands.

“I heard the call for revenge, but our leader should say what we need to do, and we must listen to him,” she said.

Posters and graffiti at the Grand Mosalla called for the killing of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mohammad Rasouli, a poet who emceed the event before the funeral prayers, drew out calls of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”.

Speaking to the crowd over loudspeakers, Rasouli asked, referring to Trump: “Why is the most bastard man in the world still alive?” The question drew cheers from the crowd.

Iranian embassy to Trump: ‘People can be killed, but ideals cannot’
Iran’s embassy in Armenia has responded to Trump’s comments to the Axios news outlet, in which he said no shots would be fired during the multiday funeral for Khamenei.

The US president told Axios he could “eliminate everyone” attending the event but said that then “there will be no one left to negotiate”. He also expressed surprise at Iranians crying at the funeral, saying he thought people hated Khamenei.

In response, Iran’s embassy in Yerevan said on X:

“People can be killed, but ideals cannot. You killed Ayatollah Khamenei, but in reality, you broke a perfume bottle whose scent spread everyplace. You don’t understand these things because you have neither civilization, nor history, nor honor.”

Prayer held for Khamenei’s 14-month-old granddaughter
As we’ve been reporting, funeral prayers were also held today for the four members of Khamenei’s family who were killed in the joint US-Israeli strike on February 28.

Among them was his granddaughter, Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani, who was only 14 months old.

Footage posted online by Tasnim news agency shows her small coffin placed beside her grandfather’s during the funeral proceedings. The agency said her father, Mohammad Javad Mohammadi Golpayegani, also attended the prayers.

Zahra’s mother, Boshra Khamenei, was also killed in the same strike.

IRGC boss among prominent Iranians at Khamenei funeral prayers
Revolutionary Guard chief Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi was among high-profile Iranians joining the funeral prayers for the late supreme leader.

Vahidi’s presence was notable with video published by the Fars News Agency and other Iranian media showing him in the front row of the ceremony among the mourners. Some Iranians were eager to take photos with him.

Mohammad Pakpour, the most recent IRGC chief, was killed during the opening phase of the US-Israel war on February 28. Pakpour was appointed after Israel killed his predecessor Hossein Salami during the 12-day war in June 2025.

Vahidi is a product of the IRGC from its earliest days in the late 1970s. He rose through the ranks during the 1980s, holding key positions in the intelligence agency and military. Vahidi reportedly led the IRGC’s elite Quds Force from 1988 to 1997.
