The Federal Government is set to convene the Northern (Arewa) Media Summit 2026 in Kano on Monday, July 6, with stakeholders expected to examine the media's role in governance, regional development and public engagement across Northern Nigeria.

The Bureau Journal reports that the summit will bring together journalists, media executives, editors, broadcasters, communication experts, digital content creators, policymakers and other stakeholders from the 19 Northern states.

Summit to Strengthen Media-Government Collaboration

The event is being coordinated by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, Malam Abdulaziz Abdulaziz.

According to the organisers, the summit is designed to strengthen collaboration between government institutions and media professionals while promoting responsible journalism and effective public communication.

Focus on Governance, Development and Accountability

Participants are expected to deliberate on how the media can further promote transparency, accountability and good governance while contributing to peacebuilding and regional development.

Discussions will also focus on the media's role in supporting economic growth, fostering national unity and addressing the growing challenge of misinformation and fake news.

Digital Journalism Takes Centre Stage

The summit will examine the growing influence of digital platforms and emerging technologies on journalism, strategic communication and civic engagement.

Stakeholders are expected to explore practical strategies for equipping media professionals with the skills needed to adapt to the rapidly changing information environment.

Stakeholders Expected from Across Northern Nigeria

Government officials, media owners, editors, academics, communication specialists and executives of media organisations are expected to participate in the high-level gathering.

Organisers describe the summit as an important platform for promoting media professionalism and shaping the future of journalism and strategic communication across Northern Nigeria.

Expected Outcomes

The summit is expected to produce recommendations aimed at strengthening cooperation between government institutions, media organisations and the public.

It is also expected to reinforce the media's constitutional role in promoting democratic governance, accountability and sustainable regional development.

7. 300% Salary Increase For The Judges Which Was Speedily Passed By The Insensitive And Irresponsible Senators. The law has been bought.

8. 5 Billion Naira Was Budgeted For Presidential Fleet Of Cars For President Bola Ahmad Tinubu. I mean for someone who already has over 40 cars following him already.

9. 5 Billion equally budgeted for Presidential Yatch. The commonwealth is now a personal wealth.

10. 225 Billion naira spent on so-called Presidential Jet Festus Keyamo compensated.

11. 90 Billion naira spent on 2024 Hajj pilgrimage . Religion is a personal business. This is extravagant and irrelevant.
