Pakistan and India could do well in football if they wanted, but the main money spinner is cricket, and every youngster from there wants to play cricket. Soccer is a distant last in their priorities.

China qualifed for one world cup in 2002.

The problem with china is they do well in other sports, and they also heavily focus on academics. As such a failure in football is outweighed by successes in other sports.

And yes, China's poor record at the world cup has been criticised. BY actual stakeholders. Yes, some have even blamed the governance and structure.

And yes, bad performance in sports= failure. Even in the USA...their bad performance in the 2020 olympics track events was viewed as a national disgrace by people like Michael Johnson, the former male 200 and 400m olympic champion.

Even countries that do well on say the olympic table, get blasted for neglecting other sports.
