Festus Keyamo Defends Tinubu From Drug Trafficking, Says Tinubu Mistakenly Shared Flats With Drug Lords

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, has distanced the All Progressive Congress presidential candidata, Bola Tinubu, from being a drug baron who was involved in the traffic of narcotics in the United States.

Keyamo, who also doubles as APC Presidential Campaign spokesperson, noted that the former governor of Lagos State only shared a block of flat with drug barons about 30 years ago in the US.

His reaction is coming following documents of a Chicago District Court indicting and convicting Tinubu of drug dealings and money laundering in 1993.

The document which emerged online two days ago, described APC standard-bearer as a drug baron, adding that Tinubu entered a plea bargain, leading to the forfeiture of his assets to US authorities in 1993

It was also pointed out that Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460, 000 dollars in his bank account at First Heritage Bank to the US government.

Speaking on Wednesday on Channels TV, Mr Keyamo dismissed such claims, insisting that Tinubu was linked to drug peddlers who were his neighbours.

He said: “What happened was that Tinubu went to open an account. The address which he used in opening the account was the address used by these people. I think some blocks of flats. Maybe, he was happy to be in that block of flats too.

“So, they now link it that the other people they were investigating for narcotics are in the same address used by Asiwaju to open that account.’’

Ofunaofu:
Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years

• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio

•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency

A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.

The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings.
>
>
According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.

The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.

The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.

“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.

It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.

With due respect, desist from tarnishing the image of the APC.

Never a time have we claimed that we are perfect. We might have in very few instances invested trust in thieves and criminals, but that does not define the objectives of our great party.

His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) will continue to sift through and eliminate such party members.

Honestly, these things are not making sense not because of anything else than the fact that it gives people like me trauma, knowing fully well that even when the allegation has been confirmed to be true, the relevant Nigerian authorities will still not take any action to ensure the law takes its course.

And the opposition too who are meant to check the excess of these people are like a thief paid to man the gate filled with fortunes, they themselves have no integrity, once the major thieves flashes dollars before them and a few promises are made to settle them, they all gladly go back into their various caves.

Both the current administration and the entire members of the opposition are the same and nothing. I repeat, nothing good can come out of them all.

It’s such a pity.

# #Gbajegate: A Timeline of Controversies and Questions Under the APC Administration

The #Gbajegate conversation has reignited public debate about transparency, accountability, and governance in Nigeria. While some issues remain allegations that require investigation, others are matters of public record. Below is a timeline separating established events from claims that continue to be disputed.

## 1. Budget Padding and Questionable Allocations

One recurring controversy has been the inclusion of projects and allocations that critics describe as unnecessary, duplicated, or lacking clear justification. Civil society groups and opposition figures have repeatedly called for greater transparency in the budgeting process.

Recent allegations surrounding the 2026 budget include claims that entities linked to the Presidency were allocated public funds without sufficient clarity. These allegations have been denied, and supporters of the administration have described them as unsubstantiated.

## 2. Allegations Surrounding #Gbajegate

The current controversy centers on claims linking the Office of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to budgetary allocations involving the purported Presidential Fiscal and Investment Policy Commission (PFIPC).

Those making the allegations have questioned why such allocations appeared in the budget, while defenders argue there is no credible evidence of wrongdoing and that the claims are politically motivated. As of now, these allegations remain contested and have not been established by any court or official investigation.

## 3. Ministerial Nomination Controversies

The ministerial nomination process attracted criticism over lobbying, political bargaining, and the delay in submitting some nominees. There were also debates about why portfolios were not attached to nominees before Senate screening, a decision the Presidency defended as allowing flexibility before final appointments.

## 4. Rising Cost of Governance

Despite repeated commitments to reduce the cost of governance, Nigerians have continued to question increasing government expenditure, supplementary budgets, and allocations amid widespread economic hardship.

## 5. Fuel Subsidy Removal

The removal of fuel subsidies was presented as a necessary economic reform. However, it also triggered higher transportation costs, inflation, and increased hardship for many households. Supporters argue it was fiscally necessary, while critics question how the savings have been utilized.

## 6. Exchange Rate Reforms

The floating of the naira was intended to unify the foreign exchange market, but it also coincided with a sharp depreciation of the currency, rising inflation, and increased costs for businesses and consumers.

## 7. Security Challenges

Despite increased spending on security and repeated presidential directives, insecurity—including kidnappings, banditry, and attacks in several regions—remains a major concern. Citizens continue to ask whether available resources are translating into improved security outcomes.

## 8. Calls for Accountability

Ultimately, the debate is not about personalities but about accountability. Public officials are expected to explain government decisions, especially where public funds are involved. At the same time, allegations should be tested against evidence rather than assumed to be true.

A healthy democracy depends on two principles:

* Government officials should be transparent and accountable.
* Critics should rely on verifiable facts rather than speculation.

As investigations, public scrutiny, and official responses continue, Nigerians deserve clear answers, transparent processes, and institutions that inspire confidence.

Gbaja cannot be scrutinized because he's above the law by being in BAT's circle of cronies. Its Adeyemi I think they may try to silence. Remember the intermediary between them was found dead in his hotel room? Its much to this abeg.

Enough of the debate and chatting please. Both Adeyemi who paid a bribe and all the culpable public officials who established the agency to siphon the collective should be executed.

If this will not be done which we know it wouldn’t then let’s kindly move on. Why are Nigerians always distracted and talking?

As we are chatting and engaging in stupid debates as to whether the agency is fake or not, South Africa has solved its own issues. Get out please.
You must be kidding. Executed by who exactly? The same people that gave him the job? Abeg.

What I just don't understand is,
You want to play the victim, you want to play Mr. Clean. You refused to play ball, resisted unofficial coercion and extortion.

Why in the devil's name could you not just record the correspondence, voice or visuals. Any five year old can do that on any mobile telephone.

By now you will have had them running helter skelter while you dictate the terms of 'surrender' from the protection of a well concealed bunker.

How can a man so adept at fraud be so naive about insurance.
