Ghana Rejects Ramaphosa State Visit Request Over Xenophobic Attacks by God1000(op): 8:30pm On Jul 07
Ghana has reportedly turned down a request for a state visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, according to Ghanaian officials who spoke to DW.

The decision comes as tensions remain high over recent xenophobic violence in South Africa. Sources within the Ghanaian government say the planned visit, which was expected to take place in early August, was declined to avoid possible public backlash and protests in Ghana while emotions around the issue remain strong.

Ghanaian officials say the safety and dignity of their citizens remain a top priority. Accra has reportedly urged Pretoria to take concrete steps to address the attacks and guarantee the protection of foreign nationals before any future high‑level visit can take place.

Bold move from Ghana, and honestly, it’s completely justified. Let’s be real, if it were Nigeria, our government would probably approve the visit, host a 3-day lavish banquet for him, and then issue a "strongly worded" press release afterward. Good to see Ghana actually standing their ground smh.

Lol... If not that something is wrong with them, what is he coming to say in Ghana?

That thetwo countries should cooperate with one another or sign trade deals? Abi na to promote unity?

There's nothing to talk about na 😂

You can't be chasing Ghanians away from your country while killing some of them, then think the next step is an official visit to Ghana. 😂 No be juju be that?

If not that other countries don't want to sink to the level of South Africa, they should be expelling their people, legal or illegal immigrants, at this moment. But, I'm sure they will regret their actions for a long time. Eventually, they will isolate themselves on the continent.

Nigerian government that cannot protect its citizens at home lacks courage and political will to sanction South African government.

Just listen to them discuss about sanctions on South African businesses in Nigeria. Nothing tangible would happen to deter the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians.

Let's also push for other African countries to build better country for their people so they would be no incentive for them to impose themselves on the South African people and government. 🥱

For me, Nigerian government needs to place Tariff sanctions on all South African companies products here in Nigeria and also place tariffs on Jet fuel exported to South Africa. Their economy will shout for it, their President will over night run here begging, then we do them the Ghanian rejection style.
