Low to no mentality, a colleague called me and was so happy when Egypt was up by 2 goals because I told him Argentina would proceed some days back. |

FuckYeyeMods:Honestly the coach made a huge mistake by substituting players who suppose to remain on the pitch. He brought out the good players and brought in bad players. |

Please leave Cameroon @ Italia 90 out of your list of teams which collapsed. I was 22 years old and I watched Italia 90. Let me refresh your memory Incase you've forgotten. Then opening matches in a world cup were played by the cup holders. In the opening match Cameroon beat Argentina with Diego Maradona 1 - 0. Mind you that this was a 9 man Cameroon, so don't talk about collapse, Cameroon had a rock solid defense and goalie. In the QF England match, the referee/FIFA cheated Cameroon. It was England that first scored, then Cameroon equalized and scored again. England was gifted 2 cheap penalties, the first in the end of 90 minutes and the 2nd in extra time. judewrites: |

1.They should stop taking part in cooling breaks. It's not "African Thing" 2. They should develop their political structures and ensure good governance. You can't have good fun(football is "sport"(entertainment)),with all the political and economic upheavals in this continent. 3. African football lovers should learn to distance themselves from the GOAT of football debate between Messi and Ronaldo... |

I see nothing wrong here. What of Asian countries? Apart from South Korea which has touched semi finals in 2002 world cup, no other one again before or after. We have seen big countries leaving the world cup too. |

When I tuned in, Egypt was ahead by 2 goals. After watching for 5 minutes, I wondered why Argentina hadn't scored, since Egypt was playing typical African football of not pressuring the ball carrier. They kept retreating from the ball, instead of pressuring, and forcing the ball carrier to make early decision, or to make a mistake. By not pressuring the person with the ball, Argentina had time and space to pass the ball around effectively. This is what differenciates Morocco and other African teams. Morocco understand the concept of SPACE and PRESSURE. Next World Cup, African teams will all crash out again, without ever figuring out their deficiency. Nigerians are looking forward to a bright future with the new coach. But we are still playing the same amateur football. If you don't believe me, go and rewatch the the first goal against Nigeria in the warm-up match against Portugal shortly before the World Cup. Defender was standing and waiting in front of the ball carrier, instead of pressuring the ball carrier. Without pressure, the player used the time and space to nicely curve his shot. African players need to know that they are not blocking anything by standing in front of opposing player. So many times, Egypt had the option to mount pressure, but the kept retreating. There was a backpass to Argentine keeper from the Middle of the field. An Egyptian player was standing there. He did not even chase down the ball. Goal keepers make mistake all the time. But you have to put pressure. |

KiNg0G:Simple. Lack of investment, lack of a good enough philosophy of football, and lack of good nutrition and training of players from the roots up, plus lack of facilites, and lack of decent coaches. It all adds up. |

African football's core issue is **inconsistency at elite level** despite talent: low-scoring, cautious games in AFCON vs. dramatic collapses in World Cups (e.g., 2-0 leads turning into 3-2 losses), especially from champions. **Key Problems:** - **Psychological/Mentality**: Poor game management, concentration lapses, and inability to close matches under pressure. Lacks the resilience drilled in top European systems. - **Structural Failures**: Weak domestic leagues, poor governance/corruption in federations, inadequate infrastructure, and coaching. - **Development Gaps**: Early player exodus to Europe disrupts team cohesion; limited tactical depth, sports science, and youth pipelines beyond raw athleticism. **Why dismissed globally?** Massive potential unfulfilled—no World Cup deep runs—due to systemic issues over individual talent. **Fixes needed**: League reform, better administration, mentality/coaching investment, and smart diaspora use. Talent is there; professionalism and structure are not. The cycle persists without root-level change. KiNg0G: |
