A Nigerian Earning ₦60 Thousand Now is Better Off Than a Nigerian Who Japa Five Years Ago — Presidential Aide, Daniel Bwala

Special adviser to the president on media and policy communications, Daniel Bwala has said that many Nigerians who moved abroad in search of greener pastures are facing harsh economic realities despite holding advanced degrees.

Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bwala said some Nigerians in the United Kingdom are working jobs that do not match their educational qualifications.

“Some of you in Nigeria who think you are suffering, you’re better off than your colleagues that japa five years ago,” Bwala said.

He described the situation as a form of modern-day exploitation, noting that many degree holders end up working in care homes and warehouses.

“As far as I am concerned, it is modern-day slavery,” he stated.

According to him, although workers may earn about £2,600 to £2,800 monthly, most of the income is spent on rent, utilities, internet, transportation, and feeding, leaving little savings.

“At the end of the day, what you are left with is not much. So you are forced to do two or three jobs,” he said.

Bwala argued that a Nigerian earning ₦60,000 locally could still benefit from family support and lower living costs compared to someone struggling abroad.

“That ₦60,000 earner can still get support from family and friends, while many abroad have nobody to fall back on,” he added.

He also defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s social intervention policies, citing the 50 percent subsidy on dialysis in federal hospitals and the provision of free cesarean sections in public health facilities.

“President Bola Tinubu introduced 50 percent subsidy on dialysis in federal hospitals, and cesarean section has been made free in public hospitals,” Bwala said.

He added that the administration hopes to expand healthcare support to more services and prescription drugs as government resources improve.

How much is minimum wage first? How on earth does a Nigerian earning 60k today sound palatable to you? Lot of demonic people rationalizing suffering for political gains. God punish you.

Even if they save twenty pounds a month they are still better than someone earning 60k naira per month in Nigeria. What will be bad is if they can't save at all and what is actually bad is to spend like 15 million naira so that you can be saving only 20 pounds a month

could you just listen to yourself, am ashamed of you, even if you decide to save 10£, 10$,10€,10¥ daily for 26 days, let's just assume all the rest goes to expenses, some one abroad is still better than who earn 60k naira, do the maths, and this 10 currency bill is minimum hour wage in most countries...when you people defend stupidity I come to realise man is inhumane to his follow man, how do you guys sleep in the night after justifying all this, like staking 300millions lives for single truth

How will you save ten pounds daily when you earn less than 2k per month before tax and rent is like half or more of your income?

If you earn 150k per month in Nigeria outside the expensive cities then you will be better off if you are single but not 60k

bro this an instance , plus what average minimum per hour rate in u.k, even student make way 10pounds daily,even after expenses you still have much more that even 150k naira, so what's your point, company some having savings of 60k naira to some one having less than 200pounds list say it is that bad or are you going to pay all the earning of 2k to tax without bills expenses and food, even at that at worst you will and is a must to save up 200pounds and convert to naira and know the outcome
