NANS Names 43 Institutions In NELFUND Double Tuition Scandal by Islie(op): 7:39am On Jul 09
By : Owede Agbajileke

Days after the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disclosed that some tertiary institutions were being investigated for allegedly failing to refund students whose tuition fees had been paid twice under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has published a list of 43 institutions it claims received duplicate tuition payments from both the Fund and the affected students.

The institutions, spread across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and the country’s six geopolitical zones, were specifically accused of failing to reimburse students who had settled their tuition fees before NELFUND later disbursed the same payments on their behalf to the schools.

A statement late yesterday by NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the list was intended to promote transparency, accountability and to ensure that affected students receive the refunds due to them without further delay.

The statement listed the 43 institutions to include: Adamawa State University, Mubi; Federal Polytechnic, Mubi; Federal College of Education, Yola; Kaduna State Polytechnic; Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa; Federal University, Dutsin-Ma; University of Education, Akamkpa; University of Uyo; Yobe State University, Damaturu; Federal University, Lafia; Modibbo Adama University, Yola; Nasarawa State University, Keffi and Federal College of Forestry, Plateau State.

Others are Federal University of Education, Pankshin; Federal Polytechnic, Nyak; Plateau State University, Bokkos; Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi; Federal University of Education, Zaria; Imo State University, Owerri; Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin; Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

Also implicated are Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki; Federal College of Education, Katsina; College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia; University of Ilorin; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; University of Ilesa; Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu as well as Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The list also has Delta State University, Abraka; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti; Federal University, Oye-Ekiti; University of Calabar; Rivers State University; Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt; Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe; and Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina State.

You must be blind. IS it the govt or the institution run by your uncles, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters?

Always trying to deflect blame where it's supposed to be. This is why the country is messed up, because people like this one will not face the problem and call out the real culprits. He's more interested in scoring political points that will not solve the problem but hopefully help his equally corrupt, immoral, unethical, and incompetent candidate.

Now you are talking. You cannot have a just govt if the society itself is full of corrupt citizens.

The average Nigerian is not yet ready to accept that we have a societal problem, and until we do that. Na waste of time.

Every institution needs people from the gate man to the top to function properly and as designed.
If the majority of people working in any institution are corrupt from their homes, then the institution cannot work as designed because it takes just a small sample of those institutions to derail what the institution is supposed to do.

You have to bribe a gateman, bribe a clerk, bribe mid-level civil servants, and so on. But we only concentrate on the people at the top.
Believe it or not, it's those at the bottom and mid-level that will determine the efficiency of your operations.
You can have laws and rules all you want. You need people to still carry them out.

Even when they already hiked the fees, they still want to "chop" more. Greedy homosapiens.

EFCC and ICPC should clamp all of them for economy sabotage.

How NANS works:

1. Some 45-year-old political tout registers for a diploma program in one of those outlier polytechnics.
2. He uses that claim to get foisted on the association, even without that poly ever having any form of a student association.
3. The 45-year-old dude creates an office close to the poly, and once in a while, parks flashy tokunbo big boys cars there in the name of "we have a meeting."
4. The 45-year-old man is called to speak, and his incoherence gives him away as a secondary school dropout.
5. No one cares, because NANS is a useless body after all.

Can you see now? As government is trying to make things easier for the citizens, the sane citizens are doing everything possible to make things harder. Of Tinubu locks these people up and throw the keys of their jail into Lagos Lagoon, same citizens who are being looted will start protests that Tinubu locked them up because they didn’t vote for him

Any idea why Tinubu's APC government's corruption is worse than Buhari's own?

Abi what is he doing with subsidy savings, higher revenue etc without impacting GDP, unemployment, prosperity, peace while borrowing like a progreThief huh

ManirBK:

The Federal Government says it has no intention to borrow from any local or foreign organisation with its removal of subsidy on petrol and exchange rate harmonisation.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, revealed this at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja.

He said that the benefit of the subsidy removal would be ploughed back into various sectors aimed at boosting government revenue and improving the business environment for local and foreign investment.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.

He reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s desire to bring back the economy from the wood it has found itself over time.

Ofunaofu:
Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years

• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio

•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency

A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.

The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings.
>
>
According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.

The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.

The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.

“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.

It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.

It's easier to set any standards top-down than bottom-up. As a matter of fact, the latter is impossible.

If it truly starts from homes, then there would be no need for Buhari to campaign with "ending corruption". Which is why his "it begins with you" campaign was nothing more than mere clownery. I mean, you campaigned for months if not years, promising to end corruption, you finally get there and say it begins with you.

It's easier to end corruption from the leader down to the followers, and anybody who delegates that responsibility away from the leaders is either a corrupt person himself, or a victim of severe psychological oppression.

Heck, a boss can redeploy a subordinate for not playing ball. So what are you saying? Stop defending corrupt people because of bigotry, cos Las las they no even send you.
