Eliminating repentant bandits, secessionists against religious, international law – Sheikh Gumi

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has criticised calls for the killing of repentant insurgents and secessionists, saying such actions are contrary to religious teachings and international law.

Gumi made the remarks in a Facebook post on Friday, days after lawmakers urged the Federal Government to end the rehabilitation of repentant terrorists and instead prosecute individuals found guilty of terrorism and related offences.

According to the cleric, killing repentant insurgents, secessionists or prisoners of war is morally wrong and violates both religious and international legal principles.

He also warned that the International Criminal Court, ICC, is observing such actions, urging those involved to consider both legal and religious consequences.

Gumi argued that adopting the same approach as terrorist groups by killing perceived enemies undermines morality and does not contribute to winning conflicts.

He maintained that emotions should not dictate decisions in the fight against insecurity.

Gumi said: “Killing repentant Insurgents and secessionists is against religious and international law. So also prisoners of war. ICC is listening if you don’t fear Allah. Where is morality? It’s the same logic terrorists employ to kill all others besides them. Emotions don’t win a war.”

The Senate had, during plenary on Tuesday, resolved that persons found culpable in terrorism and other organised criminal offences should face immediate prosecution rather than rehabilitation, insisting that justice must be seen to be done to restore public confidence in the country’s criminal justice system.

The resolution was adopted as part of measures aimed at addressing the worsening security situation across Nigeria.

The Children's Safe Return Is Worthy of Thanksgiving.

I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes.

While we celebrate this happy outcome, we must remember that no child should ever have to endure such trauma. The recurring incidents of kidnapping, particularly of schoolchildren, underscore the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture and make the protection of lives and property the foremost responsibility of government.

Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear. We must continue to work towards building a Nigeria where every child can pursue education without the threat of violence or abduction.

I rejoice with the children, their families, their schools, and all Nigerians on this heartening development.

A new Nigeria is POssible.

Sheikh Goofy must understand that when his so called "repentant" terrorists are neutralized with extreme prejudice, they are being sent DIRECTLY to Satan to collect their allocation of 72 virgins, which is the biggest favor such horrible little demons can be granted by those who carry out such acts of kindness, the instant that bogus "repentance" card has been played.

Gumi sounds more like a terror advocate cum apologist than an Islamic cleric
Or is it that there's no difference between the two

What's the difference between this man and those who condemn Kanu's arrest and incarceration? They are all terrorists sympathisers.

Now emotions apart, what he said is true, once a criminal surrenders, you don't kill him, you let the court do the justice.

The way out is for the military not to give room for surrendering at all, not to talk of repentance. Let his maker forgive him.

All rehabilitated bandits in the armed forces should immediately be de-enlisted if the war against banditry wants to be won decisively by the armed forces.

Subsequently any bandit caught should be made to face the law squarely and Gunmi should also be incarcerated along side if the war on banditry and terrorism want to be put to an end in Nigeria.

Can someone take care of this man already 😪

He has been a nuisance and a security threat to Nigeria for too long
Is it when he forms a new terrorist group that we will take this serious? sad undecided

Bandits are also terrorist, let's not pretend like they are different.

The only one who can tell if a terrorist has repented is God Himself, so let's send them to Him
If they are truly repented then they shouldn't have any worries facing God should they?

We do not want them.

So if someone has committed a mass murder or killed all your family members, he should be forgiven whenever he says he has repented?
IT'S VERY EVIL AND SENSELESS TO THINK LIKE THIS AS A TRUE MUSLIM.

Nigeria! Nigeria!! Nigeria!!!
Sadly many youths that are supposed to be on this thread discussing how to make Nigeria truly great talk about women from morning till night.
Tired of seeing all these sissy-like shameless ranting and complaining from Sun up till Sun down about Females. Men are created as the Head/Provider, why expect to be expected less of?
Even you as a man don't love unconditionally, if not why do you go after beautiful girl? You judge other human beings by appearance and not by their heart's kindness. Or Why can't you marry dwarf? Your Love is selfish too, as selfish as every woman's Love. Only JESUS Son of I AM THAT I AM loves unconditionally.

Kalatium:
There is one question every man should ask himself before calling any woman the 'love of his life' .

If all you have worked for disappeared tomorrow, if your job was gone, your business collapsed or your income suddenly stopped, would she still look at you with the same love, respect and admiration? What if she starts Earning more than you, will she remain with you?

For a long time, I believed the answer would be yes because love was supposed to be unconditional.

Life eventually answered that question for me, not once, not twice, but eight different times in a period of 10 years. Every relationship was different, every woman had a different personality, from different ethnic groups but the lesson at the end was painfully similar.
