I hope this works. The pressure on Lagos port should reduce. Let's get the other ports working. It's necessary for our development. |

blamingthedevil:Instead of the SE to have a seaport even though the region is erosion and land locked, all the SS states would have it. They should continue to support their olodo Obi You all should expect bloc votes for Tinubu from all SS states in 2031 because 2027 is already settled |

Hope not audio so that calabar can develop and pass it to Benue, Ebonyi,Akwa I om and so on. Calabar can't be ignored because they have played politics and realized that Lagos is on dangerous times concerning the ocean claiming back its spaces in years to come |

The dredging really isn't the issue. Will the NPA allow Calabar port work? If incentives aren't in place to draw shippers to a port, that port might as well just not exist. Majority of the governmental structures that make for smooth port operations are based in Lagos. The incentive to move to Calabar isn't enough for them. However, with the coastal road and hoping that the Calabar port becomes fully operational to handle larger cargoes and ships with greater tonnage, importers may begin to have a rethink of relying solely on Lagos and instead use Calabar for their imports. This will ofcourse mean that the road infrastructure in Calabar has to be broadened and brought up to standard as well. Heavy trucks plying that axis will wreck the current roads there in no time. |

Election is around the corner. Let us not be deceived. That is a welcome development but is Tinubu going to allow it to proper very well by not imposing higher levies and taxes on goods coming through the port? Higher levies and taxes destroyed the functionalities and accessibilities of ports in the south in the past |

That's good. Goods that are primarily intended for the South South, South East, North East, and part of North Central should use ports in the South South that are close to them. It makes economic sense. However, any assumption that a fully operational Calabar port will economically transform Calabar, let alone Cross River, or adjoining state is misplaced. The largest port in the UK is in a small town of about 30,000. In France, the largest port is a small town. There has been no magical economic transformation of either town. The large prosperous cities of London, and Paris don't have Ports. Today's modern port function so efficiently that it is just like collecting a consignment from an organised warehouse. Trucks drive into the port town/city, and within 2 hours, they are out heading to their destination. The economic impact of a port on the local economy of its location is not as significant when the port operates smoothly. If you drive past Lekki Ports, you won't even know there is a port there because it operates so efficiently. The days when Nigerian ports are a behive of activity with hundreds of trailers waiting, and thousands of people milling around thus creating increased economic activity is coming to an end. |

Why are we like this? Is it a promise or part of his responsibility? We are the reason politicians think that they are doing us a favor rather than doing their job. |

Nice one from the president! We expected him to consider other ports lying moribund in Sapele, Koko and Warri. There should be even development in the country. |

People also don't consider that the number of ports need to more or less reflect the size of the economy. Everybody wants a port in his backyard. But ports are businesses, not charities. If there's not enough goods going through them, they will be loss making, and become moribund as investment will divert to profitable ports. There is Calabar. There is Onne. And Warri. Akwa Ibom is planning to build one. Ondo wants a port too. Mr Dangote is planning to build the largest port in Nigeria in Ogun. Haba, where are the goods (import & export) to fill these ports and make them all profitable. If there is Apapa, Tin Can, Lekki, and the proposed Dangote port, I don't see an immediate need for another port in nearby Ondo. |
