World Cup Semi-Finals Confirmed: France vs Spain, England vs Argentina Set for Blockbuster Showdowns

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has reached the semi-final stage, with France, Spain, England and Argentina emerging as the final four teams in the race for football's biggest prize.

France became the first team to book their place in the last four after defeating Morocco 2-0, with Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé scoring to end Morocco's impressive run.

Spain followed with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Belgium, sealing the win with a late goal to set up a mouthwatering semi-final clash against France.

England also needed extra time to edge Norway 2-1, as Jude Bellingham scored twice to send the Three Lions into their first World Cup semi-final since 2018.

Defending champions Argentina completed the semi-final lineup with a 3-1 extra-time victory over Switzerland. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring before Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez struck in extra time to seal the win. Lionel Messi also made World Cup history by registering his 10th career World Cup assist, the most by any player in the tournament.

The semi-final fixtures are now set:

France vs Spain – Tuesday, July 14

England vs Argentina – Wednesday, July 15

One thing I've noticed about the world cup is that there are no surprises like the champions League. The top countries would always get to the semi finals all the time.

The highest an average team who put in all the effort can reach is quarter final. From semi finals, the top teams dominate it.

FiFA rankings are quite reliable now adays.

Even Morocco and Portugal that just crashed out were rated in the top 7 before the start of the tournament.

The super eagles was rated No. 3 in Africa b4 the start of the tournament. I believe Nigeria wld have performed better than most African countries apart from Morocco if we went to the world cup this year. Due to our current coach.

Which surprises are in the UCL? Which small teams have won the UCL ever since you've been watching it? Even when small Arsenal reached the final on two occasions, they didn't win it, same as what world cup offers, with Turkey, Croatia, Morocco reaching semi or finals but couldn't win it.

I am a Messi fan but I think the 2026 WC has been scripted to be in favour of Messi and his country, Argentina.

Officiating has been hard on all the teams that played against Argentina in the tournament, while been soft on Argentina herself.

I will still say it, even at gunpoint, that if Argentina had scored a goal in the exact likeness of Egypt's disallowed goal, VAR would never have reviewed it, talkless of disallowing it.

This is not true. Before this year's edition a surprise team usually qualifies for the semi-final. In 2022, it was Morocco, Croatia/Belgium in 2018, Uruguay in 2010, South Korea/Turkey in 2002, Croatia in 1998, Bulgaria/Sweden in 1994, etc.

When Argentina qualified to the round of 32 I have already predicted that they qualify to the semi finals with ease more than any other top team because their opponents on the knockout routes are not that of a threat to them

I've predicted it earlier before the start of this world cup that one of France, Spain, Argentina or England is the winner.
Now that all of them have made it to the last 4, I'm expecting France to lift the trophy.
