Super Eagles goalkeeper Nwabali rejoins Chippa United

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African side Chippa United, five months after parting ways with the club.

The 30-year-old is back with the Chilli Boys ahead of the 2026/27 campaign following a spell away from competitive football after his departure in February 2026. His absence from club action also impacted his position in Nigeria’s senior national team.

Chippa United confirmed Nwabali’s return on Sunday through its official social media platforms.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys.

“After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club,” the club announced.

Nwabali first joined Chippa United in 2022 before earning widespread recognition with his outstanding displays for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles finished as runners-up.

Following his exit from Chippa United earlier this year, the goalkeeper spent several months without competitive football, a situation that limited his playing opportunities and affected his standing in the national team.

His return to the Eastern Cape club offers him the chance to regain regular first-team football as he aims to revive his career and fight for a place in the Super Eagles squad ahead of future international assignments.

While I am happy that he will have team to be playing on a regular bases, I don't think is a good move for him at his age, he should be moving up the ladder to a higher club.

This guy is just too unlucky in getting a good club in europe despite been a good goalkeeper I don't know if it's because of his big head?

Does anybody have an idea how much he is being paid per month?I know it's not easy for goal keepers from Africa to get professional contract in Developed European leagues, but Nwabali has been Nigerian number 1 keeper for over 2 years now and i am surprised he hasn't joined a decent club in Europe.

Guy, check majority of the goalkeepers in Europe top clubs. Do you see anyone as bulky and big as Nwabali.

Maybe it's not the way in football, but in corporate world, once you leave, you better come back, if you have to, in higher role and with higher leverage.

Else they use you mop the floor.

Yeah, you are right.
He should've joined Abakiliki Township FC instead.

Maybe Unlucky by having bad managers.

Maybe Unlucky by having bad advisers.

Maybe Unlucky because he overated himself.

Nigerians are funny.
South Africans are rejecting them,
They are still going to the same South Africa.

When they fall a victim now,
They will want all of us to react.

Confused human being. Just like our politicians. Dude has seen that no one wants him. People really compared this dude to Okoye?

Like someone towards the bottom of the 35th best league in the world to someone in a team that finished 10th (with like 13 clean sheets) in the 3rd or 4th best league in the world. 😢 😭

He has been able to maintain the one one spot for the Super Eagle for about 3 years (under 3 different coaches ) it count for sometime.

May be his demands in teams of wage may and location is the problem.

I wish the best anyway
