The blame is not on GEJ that spent a year after the confab but never implement it,but its on Tinubu that that came 8years after.
Tinubu championed Sovereign National Conference, why has he now run away from it since becoming president?

Shouldn't it bother you that your crooked president lacks any iota integrity? grin

We had a Christian-Christian ticket in 1979. Guess what, it was the Ibos that voted against that ticket.
The Igbos voted against that ticket the same way they will vote against a Muslim - Muslim ticket today.

There has to be a balance

My post from October 24, 2025.

That guy has finally said what's disturbing him. It's religion.

(Many people have tried to find out what his problem was, but they didn't succeed, but a young guy provoked him into making a confession).

Like I said a few years ago (regarding the position of CJN), these things make no sense, but they seem to move otherwise sensible Nigerians.

(In the case of the CJN, all CJNs of Nigeria from 1958 till 1987 were southern Christians, but there was no outcry, but the outcry began as soon as a northern Muslim was appointed).

Let's look at this.

(Because the First Republic had a parliamentary system, we shall use the top person from each branch).

1960 - 1966

Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (southern Christian)

Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (northern Muslim).

1966

General J.T.U Aguiyi-Ironsi (southern Christian)

Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe (southern Christian)

1967-1973

General Yakubu Gowon (northern Christian)

Chief Obafemi Awolowo (southern Christian)

1973-1975

General Yakubu Gowon (northern Christian)

Admiral J.E.A Wey (southern Christian)

1975-1976

General Murtala Muhammed (northern Muslim)

General Olusegun Obasanjo (southern Christian)

1976-1979

General Olusegun Obasanjo (southern Christian)

General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua (northern Muslim)

1979-1983

Alhaji Shehu Shagari (northern Muslim)

Dr Alex Ekwueme (southern Christian)

1983-1985

General Muhammadu Buhari (northern Muslim)

General Babatunde Idiagbon (northern Muslim)

1985-1986

General Ibrahim Babangida (northern Muslim)

Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (southern Christian)

1986 - 1993

General Ibrahim Babangida (northern Muslim)

Admiral Augustus Aikhomu (southern Christian)

1993

Chief Ernest Shonekan (southern Christian)

General Sani Abacha (northern Muslim)

1993 - 1997

General Sani Abacha (northern Muslim)

General Oladipo Diya (southern Christian)

1998 - 1999

General Abdulsalam Abubakar (northern Muslim)

Admiral Mike Aikhigbe (southern Christian)

1999-2007

General Olusegun Obasanjo (southern Christian)

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (northern Muslim)

2007 - 2010

Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua (northern Muslim)

Dr Goodluck Jonathan (southern Christian)

2010 - 2015

Dr Goodluck Jonathan (southern Christian)

Alhaji Namadi Sambo (northern Muslim)

2015-2023

General Muhammadu Buhari (northern Muslim)

Professor Yemi Osinbajo (southern Christian)

2023 - present

Chief Bola Tinubu (southern Muslim)

Alhaji Kashim Shettima (northern Muslim)

Before now, a Christian Northerner had very little chance of ruling Nigeria, but because of Tinubu, they now have a chance. All they need to do is to remind the muslims of a time like this when Nigeria had a muslim muslim ticket.

That Christain Northerner may also decide to pick a Christain from the South. This may already be in the works for 2031 already, so start bracing up for it.

Modified
I think Gowon is a Christian Northerner, though

Yes, Awolowo picked a deputy from Igbo land and it made it a Christian-Christian ticket. Igbos voted against it, even millions of Northerners voted for the ticket. You can go and check the breakdown of the 1979 Presidential election results on Google

No one is interested in your excuses. You asked if there can ever be a Christian-Christian ticket and I simply proved to you that it once existed and even lost the election by a very close legal interpretation.

Continue in your futile attempts to use the brain of Northern Christians. If Tinubu, a Southern "Muslim" couldn’t risk running with a Northern Christian as Vice because of votes, why do you promise the Northern Christians the presidency in 2031? No be from dance clap dey start?

Was it the north that asked Tinubu to go MuMu? Tinubu did that on his own volition, at least, he hasn't told us he was forced into such an option.

The op has to also consider voting numbers. The north has an unassailable advantage over the south. As far back as 1993, MKO realized this and pioneered the MuMu, at least, as a major contender.
