Prominent Igbo elders and socio-cultural leaders have declared that they will not support another presidential term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in 2027, arguing that the South East deserves its turn at the presidency after being sidelined in 2023. In a communiqué issued after a meeting in Enugu on Monday, the elders said the 2023 election cycle was the "South East's turn" in the spirit of rotational presidency, but the opportunity was not given to the region. "Just as power went to the South West in 2023, it is only fair and just that 2027 should be the turn of the South East," the statement read. "The Igbo nation has waited long enough and has contributed immensely to the unity and economy of Nigeria." The elders specifically identified Mr. Peter Obi as the face of the Igbo presidency project in 2027. They said any attempt to frustrate his candidacy through political, administrative, or judicial means will be resisted by the entire Igbo nation. In a key part of the resolution, the elders called on Igbo lawyers, SANs, and members of the judiciary from the South East to be vigilant. "We charge our sons and daughters in the legal profession to stand firm and resist any attempt to use the courts or judicial processes to sabotage the Igbo presidency in 2027. The judiciary must remain the last hope of the common man and not a tool for political manipulation," the communiqué stated. They also urged INEC to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections, and called on all Igbos to get their PVCs and mobilize massively for 2027. The elders said their position is not about ethnicity but about equity, justice, and fairness in Nigeria's power rotation arrangement. Kemetian:That is your opinion. Nigerians are with Peter Obi and have rejected bola tinubu as Nigerians tag tinubu a one term president of Nigeria and the last yoruba president of Nigeria. Nigerians believe that Peter Obi is far more better than bola tinubu. If tinubu can pardon Sunday Igboho and pardon Boko Haram members and even allow repentant Boko Haram members to join Nigeria military then peter obi can also release Kanu and take suitable decision as the President of the federal republic of Nigeria. |
