President Shehu Shagari pardoned Ojukwu and Gowon and Ojukwu returned to Nigeria in 1982. He contested a senatorial election in 1983 on the platform of the NPN, but lost the election.

Religion in Nigeria is not always important. If you think Osinbajo would not have won. Ask yourself who would have won and who would have voted against him that voted for Tinubu? Which zones or which states? Osinbajo stood a better chance of winning Lagos and all the protest votes from Christians as well as the numbers Tinubu got in the NW.
