In fact, Shagari had to rely on the 12 2/3rd mathematical ingenuity to win. They came very close to winning. With a little support from our Ibo brothers back then, they would have won. But no, they chose to sabotage the ticket. Now, they are angry because the core north refused to sabotage the Muslim - Muslim ticket.
Very close indeed!
Check the gap below
Why didn't our Yoruba brothers in Kwara vote Awolowo to get him over the line? What about Rivers, Benue and Cross River?
It sems you have an obsession with the Igbo

Obafemi Awolowo and Philip Umeadi of UPN. They came second to Shagari/Ekwueme.
Seunmsg, this is the same Awo who nearly ten years earlier had said about by then mostly igbo biafra.....

"All is fair in war, and starvation is one of the weapons of war. I don't see why we should feed our enemies fat in Nigeria only for them to fight us harder."
I mean, if someone had said that about your tribe, you go vote for am?

I think that Awo was better than Shagari in 1979, Awo had run a whole ass region, while Shagari had just been a minister, and government official, but the past in politcs always haunts us.

Sure it was odd Igbos would vote for someone from a region where pogrom targetting them had happened, but...and look at this...did Shagari go on the record in 1966 shouting 'keel de nyamurais'? And even though Zik was running they knew he got no chance by that time.

Same reason why someone like Ojukwu could never win presidency. Past mistakes always come to haunt us (it's even why some of us don't want to do politics, the next thing we know, some joke will wake up and start talking about how that guy was known to be a thief at a young age...without mentioning that the theft was sweets taken from Mama risi's shop at the age of five!)

Welcome to the cold reality of politics.

Name one Muslim Politician in each of the 5 states in the East that you know or may not. What is the size of Muslims in each of those states, I am not even talking of indigenous Muslims. Common sense no common.
You can't take what you dish out

There a lot of Igbo Muslims in all the 5 south east states. Make just one of them deputy governor first

Because any Muslim from the southeast is a FAKE Muslim induced by money.
Igbos don't do Islam. That's one of the reasons they want to opt out of Nigeria, so that rest of Nigeria will declare Nigeria an Islamic state to be ruled by Mullahs forever.

Islam isn't viable in the SE so why should they have prominent Muslim politicians? It is the same way Christianity isn't viable in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa in the NW but only in Kaduna
What of Kogi, Niger, and Kwara where Christians are not in number but always get deputy governor?

Before now, a Christian Northerner had no chance of ruling Nigeria, but because of Tinubu, they now have a chance. All they need to do is to remind the muslims of a time like this when Nigeria had a muslim muslim ticket.

That Christain Northerner may also decide to pick a Christain from the South. This may already be in the works for 2031 already, so start bracing up for it
You’re getting ahead of yourself and engaging in wishful thinking! The status-quo and dynamics that have determined the political-economy of Nigeria from the late 60s to date will first have to change before what you suggest can have even the remotest possibility of happening! The order of things can’t suddenly change just because Tinubu is president and decreed it! You’re ascribing to him Voltron-like powers which he doesn’t possess!

We have 19 states in the northern Nigeria and we have Muslim deputy governors in the following states.
Adamawa, Gombe, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa. And in addition, Taraba has a Christian governor, Benue and Plateau has Christian/Christian.

So I don't know where you see your own

We actually had a Christian-Christian ticket in the Seventies.

General Gowon & Admiral Wey

Only it wasn't democratically elected

What precedence has he set? The argument has always been that a Northern Christian has never been Vice or president. The precedence would have been if he selected a Northern Christian as Vice to break the jinx. But he played safe by repeating the muslim-muslim ticket because those Hausa-Fulani votes are too juicy to pass up on. Now, you're hoping to benefit from both sides by promising Northern Christians the presidency in 2031. Same people that you can not risk a VP slot for.
Hehehehehe grin grin grin

It's possible!

the only problem is that politicians in the south are all sell outs and idiots

The North are united in their cause irrespective of their party affiliations

But the South? Bunch of fools who don't know their worth
Where is the lie? This is just something I so much admire about the Northerners and Muslims in general. Hardly would you see a Muslim criticizing even those that are extremists in their midst but you just come down south.
The kid that created this thread needs to know that yes, Nigeria would have had a Christian President and VP both from the South if our Igbo brothers had shun hatred and had allowed the grudges from the civil war to subside. They truncated the ticket all because of the enmity from the Biafran war that was fought earlier. Today, a southerner is asking why we’ve never had a Christian-Christian Presidency when in actual fact, it’s we the southerners who killed the amazing dream. Even many Northerners didn’t look the ticket from the prism of tribalism because it gained a little traction even in the core north.
This is why we say hate does no good!

Majority of the Kwara indigenes I have personally met in school and at work are Christians though the state is majority Muslim. Niger has a fairly large number of Christians. They have people like Prof Jerry Gana etc and Kogi state is majority Christian. I served there. No south East state is like that. They are more than 99 percent Christian just like six states in the NW are more than 99 percent Muslim

Sentiments like these is the main reason we're getting bad leaders. Whether Muslim/Muslim or Christian /Christian, As long as they are competent, their religion should not matter.

Are they campaigning based on religion or competence?

Please this is not a north thing it's a party decision. No one told Peter obi not to adopt randy Peters or mama pee for instance as vice, but his platform has no provision for it. You think obi likes Muslims? He doesn't. He is constrained to. He dislikes Muslims alot

The Hypocrisy of the North will not allow it.
The docility of the south made Muslim-Muslim possible.
Muslims believe that whenever you guys are given power you will behave like Israel, you will start killing Muslims indiscriminately because of apparent hatred 😡 shown to Muslims, People like Christopher Musa can become a President. That's because he doesn't show hatred towards Muslims population.

I believe that is the reason.

Yes.

It most be done to counterbalance the evil effects of this muslim muslim ticket.

Also Christians still have 18 years to rule uninterrupted to equate muslim rule.
By then you must have killed so many Muslims and destroyed all their mosques and denied them going to Hajj.

Unless if you can promise you don't have that agenda.

No one is arguing about northern states.

* Some states in the north have Muslim -Muslim ticket
* Some states in the north have Muslim - Christian tickets
* Some states in the north have Christian - Muslim tickets
* Some states in the north have Christian - Christian tickets

You want to dish out what you can't take.

Charity begins at home so I am telling you to tell your politicians to give us Muslims as deputy governors in all the 5 states in the south east before you can demand for deputy in the north.

Nobody "writes" Gemini. It scans public data and gives you result of the data scanned. It even shows you sources of where it gets information from. There is no way the population of Muslims will be 70% as the poster I quoted claimed. Check other sources and you will never see the population of Muslims anywhere near 70%.
