Do you mean Lionel Messi or Argentina? Personally, he has been outstanding for his team in getting results, so he is among the top contenders for the elite individual awards in the tournament.
But since the World Cup is awarded to teams, and not players, it should be a question of whether Argentina deserves the World Cup.
I’d also say Yes if they can go all the way to win it; also acknowledging that their team has been benefitting more than most from seemingly biased calls and highly positive VAR interference.

Same thing happened in 2022 when they struggled against smaller teams and even lost to Saudi Arabia. But good teams have a way of getting the job done, which is exactly what Argentina has been able to implement so far.

Apart from having the easiest group and path to semifinal, there have been clear cases of favoritism towards Argentina

From the first game in the group matches… they have been using all sorts of tricks and favoritism…

The only match that the officiating was a little bit fair was their last match against Switzerland..

Other than that, the others were terrible…
Awarding them free kicks at every slight touch… Messi must not cough, he gets a free kick very close to goal..
Then using VAR to cancel the goals of others for the same offense they did and the goal wasn’t cancelled…
A slight touch is a penalty and they will do same offense but the opponents won’t get anything

If you are a hardcore Messi fan and you think Messi and Argentina haven’t been cheating, then you aren’t fair

The support Argentina garner in US in this world cup is too overwhelming and too intimidating all because of Messi. The charisma of one man alone that plys his trade in the US has made Argentina feel at home in all their matches and that alone can make them win the world cup.

If the Argentine team wins it, he's deserving of it. The same applies to other players in other prospective winning teams.

If Argentina wins it, he does deserve it, however Argentina winning it is a big ask because the team does not seem to have the energy required overcome England first and then Spain/France in a potential final
