After the rescue of the 39 pupils and 7 teachers (46 victims total) who spent 56 days in the hands of kidnappers in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has taken a very bold step.

Instead of closing the chapter, the governor is calling on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to carry out an independent investigation into the abduction and the circumstances of the rescue.

In his speech, Makinde said the incident is “sufficiently grave and unusual” and that Nigerians deserve full transparency — whether there were security lapses, negligence, or any form of collusion. He emphasized that this is about justice for the victims and protecting our children, not politics.

He paid tribute to the three teachers who lost their lives: Mr. Joel Adesiyan (killed during the attack), Deacon John Olaleye, and Mr. Michael Oyedokun. The governor also commended the security forces (military, police, DSS, Amotekun, etc.) while announcing new security measures around the Old Oyo National Park to prevent future attacks.

If he was serious he'd be organising his own investigation into the abduction and the circumstances of the rescue himself instead of making out he is so helpless and irresponsible.

Governor Makinde should allow peace to reign,yes Mr President is in charged of nations security apparatus but he is also the CSO of Oyo state collecting huge security votes, what was he doing with the money, though it wasn't an excuse for the criminals to attack the school but did the school has fence.

If Governor Makinde know something the public doesn't know he should spill it out and allow the public to judge, instead of playing to the gallery.

If there is anyone or are people using the lives of innocent citizens to play and score a dirty political game and point,God will judge such person or people.

My gut feeling is that he already has some troubling information about the issues. And rather than make it public which would be termed partisan by the usual opposition to his government, he is lobbying for outsiders to make the findings public.
