You will get atleast 500k reduction on old cars and atleast a million naira for a car that cost 10 million naira before.

Let the market digest the new rate and new vehicles came in.

The car prices will definitely fall

One of the biggest charges that makes importing a car expensive - the NAC levy that used to be 15% - got slashed to 5%.

That's a 10 percentage point reduction.

On a car with a CIF value of ₦10 million, that's ₦1,000,000 instantly removed from your clearing cost.

Let's take the most popular Tokunbo import - a 2016 Toyota Camry with a 2.5L engine.

BEFORE July 1st (old levy structure):

NAC Levy: 15% of CIF value
No Green Tax
Total levy: 15%

AFTER July 1st (new structure):

NAC Levy: 5% of CIF value
Green Tax: 2% (2.5L engine, just above the 2,000cc threshold)
Total levy: 7%

Net reduction: approximately 8 percentage points.

On a Camry with a CIF value of ₦8.5 million, that's roughly ₦680,000 SAVED in customs charges alone.

For an SUV like a Highlander (3.5L V6), the Green Tax will be on the higher end - around 4%. But the levy dropped from 15% to 5%, so:

Old levy: 15% New levy + Green Tax: 5% + 4% = 9% Net reduction: 6 percentage points.

On a Highlander with a CIF value of ₦16 million, that's roughly ₦960,000 SAVED.

So the total reduction works out to about 6% net savings after the Green Tax. An existing levy of 15% dropped to 5%, while a new 4% Green Tax replaces part of it. The net effect: roughly 6% cheaper to clear your car.

Now here's the question that matters:

Will dealers pass this saving to YOU?

Don't hold your breath.

The dealer who was selling a Camry for ₦18 million last month? His clearing cost just dropped by ₦680,000. Do you think he'll reduce his price by ₦680,000?

He won't. He'll pocket it. His price stays the same. His profit just INCREASED.

Unless YOU know about this policy change. Unless YOU import the car yourself. Unless YOU capture that ₦680,000 to ₦960,000 saving PLUS the ₦4-6 million dealer markup you were already avoiding.

That's the game.

Dealers win when you don't know. You win when you do.
