"In Not More Than 500 Words, Provide Your Personal Orientation To Combating Insecurity Of Human Lives And Properties Across All 36 States In Nigeria."
*My Personal Orientation To Combating Insecurity Of Human Lives And Properties Across All 36 States In Nigeria*
_Word count: 342_

Insecurity in Nigeria is not a single-state problem. From banditry in the North-West, to kidnapping on highways across the South-West, to farmer-herder clashes in the Middle Belt, and pipeline vandalism in the South-South, the threat to human lives and property is national. My orientation to combating it is built on 4 pillars: *Prevention, Intelligence, Community, and Justice.*

*1. Prevention through Opportunity*
Most insecurity thrives where there is poverty, idleness, and hopelessness. Across all 36 states, I believe the first line of defense is economic inclusion. That means state-specific skill programs tied to local resources: agri-tech in Benue and Kaduna, tech hubs in Lagos, Ogun and Enugu, mining cooperatives in Zamfara and Ebonyi, and maritime jobs in Rivers and Delta. When young people have legitimate pathways to income and dignity, recruitment into crime drops.

*2. Intelligence-led Security, Not Just Force*
Deploying more boots is not enough. We need a data-driven approach that works in all 36 states. This means investing in technology: CCTV in urban centers, drones for border and forest monitoring, and a centralized, interoperable database that links Police, DSS, Civil Defense, and local vigilantes. Intelligence must be real-time and shared across state lines, because criminals do not respect state boundaries. A kidnapping planned in Niger can be executed in Abuja. Our response must be that fast.

*3. Community as the First Responders*
Government cannot police every village. I believe in strengthening community policing and state security outfits, but with strict oversight, training, and human rights accountability. Traditional rulers, youth leaders, women’s groups, and religious institutions in each state must be part of early-warning systems. When communities trust security agencies enough to share information, prevention becomes possible. This also means addressing land disputes, farmer-herder conflicts, and cultism at the local level before they escalate.

*4. Swift Justice and Rule of Law*
Insecurity persists when there are no consequences. Across all 36 states, courts must be decongested, prosecution must be diligent, and victims must see justice. At the same time, security personnel must be held to the highest standard. Abuse of citizens destroys the trust needed to fight crime.

*Conclusion*
Combating insecurity is not about one big solution. It is about 36 tailored solutions under one national strategy: give people hope, use intelligence not just guns, empower communities, and ensure justice. Protecting lives and property is the first duty of government, and it is also the duty of every citizen to be vigilant and patriotic.

Only then can Nigerians in Sokoto, Port Harcourt, Jos, and Ikeja sleep with the same sense of safety.

Insecurity is a serious problem in Nigeria, and everyone has a role to play in solving it. The government should provide better training, equipment and support for security agencies so they can protect lives and property more effectively.

Communities should work with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities early. At the same time, young people should be given more job opportunities and skills training to reduce crime caused by unemployment.

Parents, schools, religious leaders and traditional rulers should continue to teach good values such as honesty, peace and respect for others. Modern technology like CCTV cameras and emergency hotlines should also be used to improve security.

Finally, every Nigerian should obey the law, avoid violence and promote unity. If the government and citizens work together, Nigeria can become a safer place for everyone.

This is my submission, sir. I hope you will consider my response. Thank you

Personal Orientation to Combating Insecurity of Human Lives and Properties Across the 36 States of Nigeria

Security is the foundation of national development. My personal orientation is that combating insecurity requires a collective effort involving the government, security agencies, communities, and citizens. Every Nigerian has a role to play in protecting lives and property.

First, intelligence gathering and community policing should be strengthened. Local communities understand their environment better than anyone else. Encouraging residents to report suspicious activities through secure and confidential channels will help security agencies prevent crimes before they occur. Trust between citizens and law enforcement must also be improved through professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Second, technology should be embraced to improve security. Surveillance cameras in strategic locations, drones for monitoring high-risk areas, emergency response systems, and digital crime databases can help security agencies respond faster and investigate crimes more effectively. Better communication among security agencies will also improve coordination.

Third, tackling unemployment and poverty is essential. Many young people become vulnerable to crime because of limited opportunities. Government should invest in quality education, vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and job creation to give youths meaningful alternatives to criminal activities.

Public awareness is equally important. Citizens should be educated on personal safety, responsible use of social media, conflict resolution, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. Religious institutions, traditional rulers, schools, and civil society organizations should promote peace, unity, and tolerance among different ethnic and religious groups.

Furthermore, the justice system should ensure that criminals are prosecuted fairly and promptly. When offenders are held accountable while innocent people are protected, public confidence in the rule of law increases and criminal activities are discouraged.

Finally, I believe every Nigerian should demonstrate integrity, patriotism, and respect for the law. We must reject corruption, avoid shielding criminals, and support initiatives that promote peace and national unity.
