Popular content creator Shank has stirred conversation online after posting a candid and rather uncomfortable opinion about the character of the average Nigerian, suggesting that the country's harsh conditions have deeply shaped how people treat one another.

In a post shared on X, he wrote, "An average Nigerian is not a good person. The environment don just wire everyone to 'survive.' Whichever way it takes or plays. It's sad, but that's the truth. An average Nigerian feels smart when they cheat the other person. "I use am for am" ahahah. Sad. God help us all. It's embedded in our subconscious. Everything be like war. The country don scar us. You don't have to hurt the next person to grow, or win."

I am beginning to be intrigued by this so called "average Nigerian" that is going about. I've just been told they are taught rubbish, and here's me being told they are not good people.

Please, "average Nigerians" on Nairaland, if any, are you a bad person, and do you expect the Executive and the Legislature to check their excess power for you?

That's not the argument being made. The issue isn't whether the "average Nigerian" is good or bad. It's that in a constitutional democracy, citizens and institutions both have responsibilities. Citizens are expected to hold leaders accountable, while the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary are expected to exercise their constitutional powers responsibly and check one another. When either side fails, democracy weakens.

Low turnout was certainly part of the story, but many Nigerians also questioned the credibility of the process itself. The delays and technical issues with the electronic transmission of results, reports of voter intimidation in some areas, attacks on polling units, and widespread allegations of irregularities all contributed to public distrust. Whether one believes these changed the final outcome or not, restoring confidence in elections requires a process that is not only free and fair but is also seen to be free and fair.

I would have thought that the proper way to question the credibility of the process itself would be to go out and vote en masse and see what happens.

Besides, part of our duty to hold the government accountable is us participating in elections and ensuring our votes are counted, since we have not got any angels to delegate that duty to.

We've known that for long. They're even worse than those in authority and will do worse if given opportunity. It's the bitter truth. Imagine someone saying it's better for kidnapped children to die than be rescued. And she has support from those that want to rescue Nigeria.

This is a fact someone like myself knows. Because most Nigerians are terrible humans, that's why we have successfully sustained this shit-hole for over six decades.

I agree with him. Averages Nigerians are greedy,selfish and corrupt Our politicians are good example of who average Nigerians are.

The people we have in government are product and pure representation of our societal ethics, Norms and traditions.
Everyone with little change in bank is an endangered cooked person. Bankers will charge and tax sh!t out your savings, Even if you are a Keke Rider or OKada rider or Taxi driver. Agbero, Police, Customs, ViO, Lasma, anything law enforcement will frustrate your life. Even if you have complete papers, your time must be wasted.

Calll police for emergency, you are on your own. Ambulance is not available anywhere reachable, call ambulance and see what will happen.

If you have no tranportation equipment like Okada and above, Tranporters will take you to a destination for 2k, coming back will be 7k. You want to buy something and someone finds it for you, no free help, you must pay them agent fee wey no know say you go pay or they go behind, add their price before taking you there..

Police will do their job whenever they want to do it and can also intimidate and frustrate you whenever they feel like. Our society is represented in all government agencies and in all aspects of life.

Religion has done nothing to help us. Many are Kpaying people even in the name of their God and their leaders are saying they must be rehabilitated.

Try assault beat a soldier, you are going to jail, but if someone kills several soldiers and security personnel in the name of religion, the ter@r!st must be rehabilitated with the nations money. They caused problem and want government to be solving it. It is a shame.

Let's start with him, IS HE A GOOD PERSON?

Let me share 2 experiences of a house assembly member in my area.

1. One man called him and was lamenting that, his wife just delivered a set of twin and that tomorrow is naming, but no money to do the naming ceremony.

The lawmaker now called his P.A to go and attend the naming the second day, and that, he should give him 50k, but warned him to take pic of parents and twins. So, wen the PA called the parent in the morning that, his boss asked him to come and attend the naming and asked where the venue is, the man struggling to answer a simple and direct question, he latter confessed that, he didn't do any naming, only wanted to extort money from the lawmaker, he now said, they should share whatever oga sent, the P.A said, oga asked for pictures, that was how burble busted.

The second one is a woman who went to complain that his mother died and no money for burial, lawmaker promised coffin. Burble busted wen they reached house to present the coffin.

In naija, from leaders to followers, lecturers, students, civil servants, market people, artisans, security forces, judiciary, pastor/imam, they are all dubious and mischievous.( at least 95%)

Your close friends, family, co-workers, co-tenants, be vigilant and observant when dealing with them

Most of them are just trying to sound woke, funny enough they ended up sounding unintelligent... I am an exception cos I don't fall into such categories of Nigerians and im sure they many of us out there . .

90% of Nigerians are heartless and ready to harvest you.
