Eight Cattle Killed, Many Injured In Fresh Plateau Attack by adenigga(op): 1:26pm On Jul 17
Gunmen on Thursday afternoon killed eight cattle and injured several others in a fresh attack in Yarwe village, Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, who confirmed the attack on Friday in Jos, described it as unprovoked.

Babayo explained that the gunmen stormed the scene of the incident while herders were tending to their cattle, adding the herders escaped when the perpetrators started shooting sporadically.

[b]He said “Plateau State Chapter of MACBAN strongly condemns the unfortunate killing of eight cows and the shooting of several others by suspected Berom militias at Yarwei Village in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

“According to reports available to the Association, eight cows were killed on the spot, while many others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. This incident is deeply disturbing, particularly as the area has experienced a period of relative calm without such attacks.

“We are concerned that this unfortunate act has the potential to undermine the fragile peace that communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area have been striving to maintain. Acts of violence against pastoralists and their means of livelihood only increase tension, create fear, and threaten peaceful coexistence among the people.

“MACBAN therefore calls on the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to immediately investigate this incident, identify those responsible, and ensure that they are brought to justice in accordance with the law. Accountability is essential to preventing further violence and restoring confidence among affected communities, “ the chairman added.

MACBAN, however, appealed to members of the Fulani community to remain calm, exercise restraint, and avoid taking the law into their own hands, while allowing the relevant authorities to carry out their responsibilities.

Berom denies allegation

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), led by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has denied involvement in the killing of the cattle.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the group, Rwang Tengwong, said “BYM wishes to state unequivocally that the allegation is premature, speculative and unsupported by any credible investigation.

"It is regrettable that MACBAN has once again rushed to assign blame to the Berom people without allowing security agencies to establish the facts. Such reckless accusations have, in the past, heightened tensions and preceded violent attacks on innocent indigenous communities.

“The Association recalls that the location mentioned by MACBAN is among areas where security agencies have directed that grazing activities should not take place because they serve as buffer zones.

“This raises serious questions as to why cattle were taken into the prohibited area in the first place. Security agencies must investigate who violated this directive and determine the actual circumstances surrounding the alleged incident,” BYM said.

Hmmm 🤔
The cattle rearers need to be investigated to know why they took their cows to a prohibited zone
And security agencies need to protect the host communities because these onukus might retaliate

I will advise those that lives around the area to temporarily relocate to a safer place.

Herdsmen can't be predicted.

Some of them are evil and wicked.

Don't let them use you as revenge to what you might be innocent of.

Make a lot of sense when you think of the number of people that have been killed since herdsmen and boko wahala started.

Do you know how many people have died for this wahala? I don't either. But we can count the cows that have died because they are more valuable than human beings in Nigeria.

The quickest way to get the Fulani out of your community is to unalive their cattle, repeatedly, again and again. They will leave you in peace. They value their cattle more than humans.

But while at it, make sure you have an inexhaustible supply of 'groundnuts'
