Bail conditions for Nasir Elrufai

I thought the bail conditions are significantly worse than this? Didn’t they require a civil servant of level 16 and above and who has a house in maitama? And a letter from some traditional ruler that is most likely not going to be receptive to him. It’s like telling Obasanjo that the only way he can get bail is to get a letter from Ayo Fayose. That one na bail condition?

How is this stringent ?

As a former governor he ought to have people that can meet those bail demands .

The monetary aspect and landed property ownership are not hard for someone like El Rufai to get 2 people in Kaduna to sign on his behalf.

El Rufai can even cough out that amount on behalf of his sureties


So what is stringent about this ?

It's the case of phone tapping that is being prosecuted by the DSS that has more stringent demands which the judge set for him that will be difficult for El Rufai to meet , one of which was to get serving civil servants at Grade level 17 who own properties in Maitamma, Abuja.

As per this bail set by the Kaduna State High Court, El Rufai can easily meet it but even if he does, he still won't be free as he is still facing another charge for phone tapping before an Abuja Federal High Court.

That is the one he can't meet because I doubt there are any serving civil servants who own properties in Maitamma. The ones who did have probably sold theirs or have since retired.

This is the bail condition set by the Kaduna State High Court judge which El Rufai is standing trial for corruption


El Rufai still has another case before an Abuja Federal High Court which he is being arraigned for tapping the phone of the NSA. That is the one he can never meet the bail conditions which require 2 serving civil servants on grade level 17 who own properties in Maitamma, Abuja. That is like asking for a serving Lagos state civil servant who owns property in old Ikoyi or Banana Island or Eko Atlantic. Impossible is an understatement.

This appears to be politically motivated. Why is all these happening to him now when its close to elections?

The issue is not about the unavailability of persons to sort out the bail. However, the main issue is whether those people will be bold enough to come out or willing to place themselves under the government's spotlight....
