Blaming the defeat solely on Messi is driven more by an agenda than by objective analysis. Argentina reached the final with the same tactical setup and the same Messi, whose reduced pressing has been part of Scaloni's system for years. That approach has already delivered major trophies.

Spain dominated because they were simply the better team, not because Messi didn't press. Besides, how do you expect him to press when Spain were controlling the possession and are not willing to lose it for a sec?
