United States President Donald Trump has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration's efforts to tackle terrorism and protect Christian communities in Nigeria.

Trump's remarks, contained in a letter to the Nigerian President, represent a notable shift in tone as Nigeria continues to grapple with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of insecurity.

The U.S. President reportedly praised Tinubu's resolve to confront the country's security challenges and acknowledged the Nigerian government's efforts to protect vulnerable communities.

The development was welcomed by the Nigerian presidency, which described the message as a reflection of the growing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States.

The relationship between both countries has attracted renewed attention in recent months, particularly over concerns about attacks on Christian communities and the broader security crisis affecting several parts of Nigeria.

Trump had previously raised concerns about the safety of Christians in Nigeria, increasing international scrutiny of the country's response to religiously linked violence and terrorism.

His latest remarks, however, suggest a more positive assessment of the Nigerian government's approach and could pave the way for deeper security cooperation between Abuja and Washington.

According to the presidency, Nigeria and the United States have strengthened their collaboration through a Joint Working Group involving the national security advisers of both countries.

The partnership is expected to focus on intelligence sharing, counterterrorism training and coordinated efforts to tackle terrorist organisations operating in and around Nigeria.

The United States has also provided support to Nigeria's security agencies through training, intelligence and other counterterrorism capabilities.

For the Tinubu administration, Trump's commendation offers an important diplomatic boost as the government seeks to demonstrate progress in its campaign against terrorism and insecurity.

However, the development also raises questions about the extent to which international support can translate into measurable improvements in Nigeria's security situation.

Despite ongoing military operations and international partnerships, communities across parts of the country continue to face threats from terrorist groups, bandits and kidnappers.

The security crisis has also affected both Christian and Muslim communities, highlighting the complexity of Nigeria's insecurity and the need for a comprehensive national response.

While Trump's praise may strengthen diplomatic ties and encourage closer security cooperation, the ultimate test will be whether Nigerians experience a sustained reduction in attacks, kidnappings and other forms of violence.

Nigeria remains a strategically important partner for the United States in Africa, particularly as concerns over terrorism and instability continue to affect the wider West African region.

A stronger partnership could potentially give Nigeria greater access to intelligence, advanced training and other resources needed to improve its counterterrorism capabilities.

For now, Trump's message represents a significant vote of confidence in Tinubu's security efforts and signals Washington's willingness to support Nigeria in confronting terrorism.

But as the Tinubu administration continues its fight against insecurity, Nigerians will be looking beyond diplomatic praise for concrete results — safer communities, fewer attacks and lasting peace across the country.

We all know it was a diplomatic responsive letter.

Trump couldn’t have sat down to commend what he’s been condemning, and even still condemning it till this moment..

Amoda should be ashamed of himself..

Nigerians who value transparency and good governance are all asking similar questions:

1. What was the original message to Trump and when was it sent? Was it a congratulatory message early on in his Presidency?

2. Publish the original document with Trump’s signature? Be proud and publish the document. Or are you hiding something?

3. In addition to publishing the original document, publish also the initial letter to Trump that necessitated that “thank you for your kind words”.

Your enemy can't kill a big bush rat and you will be happy.

Trump's name won't be used to make such a bogus claim and you won't have seen a refutal or official disclaimer from the US State House or even trump himself.

The letter is not to Rufai or his think alikes . Why dieing to read the letter.

But the truth is , its painful when your enemy is being praised by the person you seek validation from.

If you are happy when Trump called Nigeria a state of particular concern and you are sad when he said security and economy is improving....
You are an enemy to Nigeria

Breaking....

This is Dr. Von Batten. Yesterday evening, I was informed by a journalist I respect that he had been told Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT) released a more than two-week-old letter from President @realDonaldTrump in response to our lobbying efforts here in Washington, D.C.

I was also informed by a different source that no actual letter was sent and that President Tinubu's team forgot to change the date from July 6 to July 22 in the released quotations. We are still working to verify this particular claim, but it appears President #Tinubu's apparent objective was to make it seem that the alleged letter from President @realDonaldTrump to him was sent after we briefed the White House on Tinubu's alleged heroin trafficking link. In reality, the alleged letter is dated weeks before our White House briefing. Stand by for updates.

This morning, I personally briefed key members of the White House regarding President Tinubu's apparent attempt to insinuate that President #Trump condones President Tinubu's alleged drug trafficking link. A member of my team will also be meeting with @SenTedCruz's staff this morning to provide a briefing on these latest developments.

An opposition bereft of ideas or modicum of thought. That's how they'd keep chasing breeze till 2031. Many times, they just convince reasonable people that they are working for Tinubu. How can opposition be so usless?

Trump did not write any letter, period. They will not publish any letter. To publish anything means to forge one. Forged one will be detected and Trump may even call them out.
